REAL ID needs to be killed dead, ASAP.
They said that the Social Security number would *never* be a national ID number. They lied.
They didn’t even bother to lie about REAL ID. Except that its only benefit is for the federal government. Not the states. And not the people.
And the worst part of REAL ID is that it *enables* the federal government to be even *more* intrusive and repressive. What might it turn into in the future?
Right now, they plan to bar those without it from air travel, go on to military bases, or even go into any federal buildings.
Who issues Social Security numbers, but the Federal Government? How is giving the USG a number that they issued to you in the first place an intrusion into your privacy?
