More black women turning to guns for self-defense
Fox News ^ | May 10, 2017 | Fox News

Firearms instructors are reporting an increase in the number of black women learning how to use guns in self-defense courses around the country -- and the reasons are varied.

"Minority women are definitely increasing in numbers," Rick Ector, a firearms instructor, said of attendees at his weekly course just outside of Detroit.

"Women overall -- in particular, minority women -- are looking toward guns to protect themselves against crime," Ector told Fox News. "Women are definitely drivers in the market right now."

Other cities, like Savannah, Dallas and Cincinnati, have also seen an uptick in the number of minority women signing up for gun-training courses.

In Georgia, for instance, trainer Marchelle Tigner referred to the observation as a "movement" in an interview with the Guardian newspaper.

Tigner, who launched Trigger Happy Firearm Instruction in November, told the paper she had to expand room in her classes, which sold out after promoting them through social media.

"The growth of these classes – I never expected it," she told the newspaper. "It shows me how unsafe these women feel in their communities." . . .

this is a really good thing on multiple levels:

1. Safe, effective and rapid self-defense against death and mayhem is vital for everyone, especially females, who are generally lesser in size, weight, and strength.

2. Gives the bad guys second thoughts and the stupid ones who don’t think are going to be reduced in numbers.

3. The more guns owned by responsible people in crime-ridden neighborhoods, the safer those neighborhoods will become.

4. more people owning firearms is more people less inclined to believe Dem/Prog lies.

5. increased female gun ownership by responsible females is good politics for gun ownership

6. increased gun ownership by responsible blacks is good politics.

7. increased gun ownership by responsible black females is even better politics.

Good for them. The more widespread is the recognition of this right to self defense, the better for the nation.

"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks." - Thomas Jefferson, letter to Peter Carr, August 19, 1785

Better hit the floor at the 2:00AM Denny’s brawl and those Chucky-Cheese riots where you bring your kids.

Good for them!

There’s a reason pistols, etc. were referred to as “the Great Equalizer” in the Old West.

With all due respect, from the article:

“Tigner, who launched Trigger Happy Firearm Instruction in November, told the paper she had to expand room in her classes, which sold out after promoting them through social media.”

It sounds like these women are responsible gun owners, taking classes, etc., for self-protection. If they were the type of people you describe, they wouldn’t be buying them legally and learning how to use them; in fact, I think your post is kind of racist.

These are women who are probably living in dangerous neighborhoods and want to protect themselves. There are very good people living in very bad neighborhoods.

My father’s caregiver grew up in the same Chicago neighborhood as my dad; her parents still live there; they are good people who love the home where they raised their children but are basically petrified (installed all sorts of security devices). My dad’s caregiver said she visits her parents at the home where she grew up, but gets the heck out of there as quickly as possible.

I applaud Americans of any color who want to protect themselves and are willing to get educated on how to use firearms.

I completely agree.

My Canadian husband (and all of the other Canadians I know) seem to think that if guns were banned, the world would be perfect.

They need to look at John Lott’s study (he’s from the University of Chicago), “More Guns, Less Crime.”

He studied states that adopted concealed carry; the crime rate went down.

There seems to be a lot of that mindset in other nations.

Has he been persuaded by real world data? A lot of people prefer to ignore information that doesn't suit their preferred beliefs. Objective people are just not that common.

I think you’re absolutely right. People just ignore realities that don’t fit their mindset.

I don’t even have a gun, LOL! But then, I don’t live in Detroit or Chicago (anymore, for the latter city).

Oh, yes, I wanted to add: What country do those other, gun-abhorring nations turn to when there’s a problem?

I don’t think I need to even say it. ;)

My understanding is that it is tough to own a gun in Canada, at least so far as handguns are concerned.
