California Climate Change Debate Heats Up

A proposal to restructure one of California's landmark climate change initiatives goes before a state Senate committee on Wednesday, stepping up a legislative debate about the future of the state's cap-and-trade program.

The measure would end the current program and impose a perpetually escalating tax on carbon emissions, with much of the revenue it generates going back to taxpayers to offset the higher bills they'd face for gas and energy.

The bill, written by Democratic Sen. Bob Wieckowski of Fremont, would allow the state to charge a fee for carbon emissions that would apply to all industries, with a price floor and ceiling that rise over time.

I'm not surprised that California Green Marxists think the best way to regulate the weather is a perpetually escalating tax.

BWAHAHAHAHHA! Nothing “goes back” to the taxpayers. Look at the $300M+ of foreclosure settlement funds stolen by Jerry ‘Moonbeam’ Brown that were confiscated to pay off state housing bonds, which a court found to be illegal. Likely CA will p[ss it away on favored non-govt organizations, which is not the same as returning it back to taxpayers.

RE:”Wieckowski said earlier this month that as much as 90 percent of the revenue would be refunded to consumers, with the rest paying for infrastructure and research on climate change and clean energy.”

Tax CA residents for energy use and give the $$$$ back to them?

What could go wrong with that?

this is California busy work for you - pass a tax and then tell the taxpayers we’ll give it back to you in electric bill credits.

Do these idiots realize we’re racking upwards of $1B in repairs to the Oroville Dam - one dam - who’s cost will skyrocket our hydro-electric bills for years to come as we repay the debt?

Any “debate” in the CA legislature is akin to a pack of five democrat wolves and two republican sheep discussing what to have for lunch. The wolves - whose victory is already assured - already have their minds made up and are just going through the motions for entertainment’s sake.

Don’t worry...it says right in the article that the state government is going to send back the extra money you paid for carbon.

LOLOLOL....pant, pant

That refund is hiding out with the Obamacare $2,500 reduction in average health care costs

Thank you God for giving me the wisdom to escape that state when I joined the Air Force in 1976.

I know you meant to apply sarc/ at the end of your comment. But, to answer your question; nothing could go wrong if you believe in socialist style redistribution laced with crony capitalism.

We get to see what would have happened if the witch had won by watching California. Thank God for the Electoral College.

Note - refunded in personal income taxes, while loading on business costs.

So cost of doing business will go up regardless, uncompensated - assuming they ever actually compensate anyone.

So a direct kick in the pants to move jobs to Texas, as if we needed something more.

Between immigration, energy and employment policy CA is turning their citizens (whether they like it or now) into ideal global citizens.

Soon the rest of the country and China will follow CA

They must feel smug at night.
