- while not supported by any established party (he’s launching a new movement), was featured on an incredible number of magazines covers (likely more than all other candidates combined), appears as the MSM candidate
- benefits from conservative right polls favorite François Fillon being hit by scandal (he employed and overpaid his wife and childs with public money) as well as former president Sarkozy (for political funding fraud)
- was “lucky” Fillon was surprisingly selected in the republican primaries, as Alain Juppé looked like a far more dangerous rival for him
- benefits from Marine Lepen having difficulties to fund her campaign (no bank wanted to loan money to her), and being hit by another scandal (accused to have paid political advisors not working on EU related topics with european money)
- benefits from Socialist Party surprisingly chosing Hamon, a total outsider* far left candidate instead of center left Manuel Valls, after some strangeness in primary results (took 4 days for the party to give the correct number of voters in the primary first round)
- * there were two far left contestants in those primaries, the other candidate of the left wing, Montebourg (who is an anti-globalist critical of Germany domination of Europe) was polls favorite to challenge Manuel Valls, but strangely ended third, and it’s Hamon, far less clear on those topics who was chosen
- benefits from the left being even further divided, with the candidacy of popular eco-socialist (and “ex” trotskist) Jean-Luc Mélenchon likely to make sure Hamon can’t beat him and qualify for second round
- if he qualifies, is given best chances to win in second round polls no matter who he’s against (winning by 60+% against Lepen, 55 against Fillon), good scores considering most true leftists hate him, and most nationalists as well
