Guess what, there will always be some law that is based on some idea of virtue.
The only way the USA could work as a civil anarchy would be if everyone believed deeply in God. In which case we’d basically have heaven in waiting, and government would be superfluous.
Look at what has happened to China, prostrating itself to mammon — our mammon — that we are too cheap to approach our neighbors with first. The Yangtze is a sewer; Beijing is besmogged. The paleo-lefties who would say shame, shame, shame on the USA for this might be very correct.
We had the rule of law in our Constitution and it was the best ever written. However it was founded on Judeo-Christian principles. I don’t think we survive as a free society unless we adhere to those principles. No amount of government can replace it. But government must not usurp it either.
How is leaving people alone and not forcing them to serve others a prescription for anarchy? We have a Constitution that should be acceptable to all and that is almost what it proscribes except for a handful of things most of which restrict the government. I still certain that even with out governemt involvement in trade, healthcare, and retirement Americans will be fine and we will take care of own via family, church, and community.
Which is exactly what He meant when He said, “...you could make that mountain fly away...”
