China's first domestically built passenger plane completed its maiden flight today. The narrow-body, twin-engine C919 successfully took off from Shanghai Pudong International Airport at 2pm local time (7am BST) amid much fanfare. The single-aisle aircraft has been billed as China's answer to the Boeing 737 and Airbus 320 as the nation aims to take on western airlines. The C919 flight is Beijing's first step toward independence from Boeing and Airbus as it attempts to replace all 6,000-6,800 of its western aircraft at a cost of around $1 trillion.

That was Mao Tse-tung’s prediction about the aftermath of WWIII: after the U.S. & Soviets wiped each other out and killed half the population in China, the Chinese would still “inherit the Earth”.

The Chinese have already inherited WalMart in their march for world domination.

“Chinese products are far more mainstream than most folks know.”

That’s the problem. When I compare new golf shirts to ones that are 30 years old the new ones are much more cheaply built and won’t last. Same for socks.

New plywood, molding, 2x4 have less quality than before.

That’s exactly what I was thinking.

The nose, tail, cockpit, and winglets are direct copies of the Boeing 787. I didn’t notice discussion of whether it is aluminum/titanium or carbon fiber.

Where’s the innovation? There’s nothing there that isn’t copied.

Beijing, China. Nov 22, 2017. Preliminary report suggests that a Chinese passenger airline carrying 472 passengers and 19 crew members has disappeared from the radar. The civilian aviation ministry has declined to comment pending investigation.

You are dead right, but the cheapening of products is not because of where they are made. That “benefit” is straight out or the MBA xchools in the USofA, Harvaaard being the worst.

Corporations have stopped producing products that last a lifetime. 7 years is the target, 10 years is an ancient, obsolete item. This is everything sold in the US today, from hammers to $100,000 vehicles.

China can build to whatever level of quality the corporate customer wants. Corporations want cheap, so it can be sold cheap and still turn a large profit margin. Same was true with “Junk made in Japan” years ago.

Quality costs, how much you want to spend?

that’s pretty much impossible, even for “made in china”.

Japan quality issues? You might want to research TQM and Japan. They made a joke out of American companies. Still do.

Well all I can say is at least with American cars, you can still get factory parts when needed to repair them. Not so with BMW’s.

Unions are the problem. High labor costs as a result of out of control unions. But don’t worry, robots won’t be unionizing.

You can clearly see the gear doors. The door retracts.

I am referring to Japanese products from the 50s and early 60s. The word “quality” was never used when referring to those products.

Try getting US made parts for older US made cars. They may say Ford or Mopar on them, but are not made in the US.
