Republicans Get Their Health Bill. But It May Cost Them.
New York Times ^ | May 4, 2017 | By JENNIFER STEINHAUER

In voting to repeal President Barack Obama’s signature health care law, House Republicans finally delivered on a key Trump administration goal and on a campaign promise that they have made for the better part of a decade — but at a potentially steep price.

But by leaning on members to vote for a bill that many fear will take too much health care from too many people, Mr. Ryan has exposed moderate Republicans to withering political attacks. This is especially true in the roughly two dozen districts where Hillary Clinton prevailed, but it is also the case in places where the Affordable Care Act’s popularity has been increasing.

“If you’re in a very moderate-to-Democratic district — yeah,” said Representative Peter T. King, Republican of New York, conceding the potential risk to Republicans.

Mr. Schumer gave a preview of the Democratic blitz facing House Republicans — who will return to their districts for a week off to gauge voters’ reactions — describing the measure as a “breathtakingly irresponsible piece of legislation that would endanger the health of tens of millions of Americans.”

Republicans are bracing for those kinds of encounters. “They’re not going to be less angry,” said Representative Bill Huizenga of Michigan, referring to the several town hall meetings he has held with angry voters. “But what I am also hearing back home is that most people expect us to do something and I’ve been saying I want to do this since 2009. So this would not be a surprise for anyone who voted for me.”

The mandate and ‘work them 30 hours or more a week, you pay’ was tyranny and a job-killer, in that order.

Oh yeah, once premiums and deductibles start going down, people are REALLY going to be pissed.

If premiums and deductibles start going down. What if they don't?

Well, looking at the way Rush Limbaugh explained the differences today on key provisions of the Death Panel Law and the bill passed today, I have enough economic education to surmise that’ll be the effect.

If the premiums go up for most people, guess what? Trump isn’t stupid enough to let that go on. He’ll work to fix it, which is ANOTHER switch from Hussein.

Hussein found out things were going badly and said, essentially, “Huh. Imagine that. Well, I’ve got a tee time in fifteen minutes. Bye.”

All the promises and lies. It may cost them but not for the reason the times thinks.

Just like it cost republicans in 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2016.

The Failing NY Times ain’t worth warm spit.

One can only WISH the NYT would be right.

You’re correct. It matters not how much Socialism the (R) forward, they will always have their own plantation living, Party over Platform cheerleaders.

Hey, (R) violated every tenet of the Constitution and Federalism by taking O’Care and putting lipstick on. No matter, the fee went to $0, comrade (until the next budget and some rider is slipped in in the dead of night).

TFNYT and the rest of the enemedia conveniently forget the Dems lost the House right after, and because, THEY passed obamacare against the wished of the majority of voters, and have never held the House since then.

Now that the middle-class has suffered under obamacare, there’s even more reasons that Dems the Dems won’t get back control.

Why not fix them now in the AHCA? Premiums estimated to go up 15%-20% under year 1 of the AHCA...horrible for hard working Americans that buy their own health insurance.

I guess that was before the bill was changed.

BTW, premiums were going up and coverage was disappearing under Hussein’s Death Panels.

The bottom line is that this puts less regulation/taxes/fees/costs on the private sector. In the short run there may be more confusion, but the unshackling of these costly burdens will eventually be good for the market.

Speaking of the Obamacare Death Panel, I see nothing in the AHCA that gets rid of it. It was established by “Section 3403” & “Section 10320” of the ACA and I searched those section #’s and “Medicare”, “independent”, “payment”, “advisory” “board” in the AHCA bill with no results. Maybe someone else can have better luck finding the repeal if there is one:

So you don't know either.

Going to fast for you?

Not at all. It only seems fast to you because there's nothing there.

Can’t define a solution until a problem exists, Sparky.

How are you going to fix the next problem with your car? You cannot answer until you know the problem.

Pretty basic stuff. Sorry you’re so confused. But you seem to be one of those pre-disposed to tantrums no matter the situation.

I don’t know for certain, but wouldn’t the provision shifting minimum requirements back to the states be a “de facto” repeal of any federal government bureaucracy charged with the power to determine such things?

The libs wanted to repeal and replace, too. They just wanted to replace failed Obamacare with centrally controlled socialized medicine. That is what Hillary was supposed to do.

I thought we were discussing a problem you identified. Premiums go up and you said Trump would take care of it. My question is 'how'? Going too fast for you?

How are you going to fix the next problem with your car? You cannot answer until you know the problem.

If my car will not start then I know what the problem is. The question is how to solve it.

Pretty basic stuff. Sorry you’re so confused. But you seem to be one of those pre-disposed to tantrums no matter the situation.

No, I just don't have your rose-colored glasses.
