Director of the Office of Management and Budget Mick Mulvaney said Tuesday that a wall is being built right now on the Mexican border.
MICK MULVANEY: The president delivered on his promises and got his priorities funded, and that's what the Democrats don't want you to know. They want you to think they won, but they don't want you to know the American people won here because the president simply out-negotiated them.
And we're going to build this. There are several hundreds of millions of dollars for us to replace cyclone fencing with 20-foot high steel wall. There's several hundreds of millions of dollars in the bill for us -- can we bring up the other photo please? Do we have the other photo?
There's several hundreds of millions of dollars for us to build levee walls along the southern border. And as many of you know who follow this issue, some of the most vulnerable areas that we have are places along rivers where we desperately need levees in order to provide the protection of the southern border that we -- that we need, OK?
We are building this now. There is money in this deal to build several hundreds of millions of dollars of this to replace this. ...
This is what DHS wanted. It's also half of the cost, so we can build twice as much of it. This is a huge win for border security.

That’s not what Trump said. Trump said repeatedly and often that Mexico would pay for the wall through the tariffs we would impose on Mexico, which didn’t make any sense. The Carrier thing etc. is Trump’s negotiating power but he never said Mexico would pay because of our negotiating power. He repeatedly said it would be through tariffs imposed on Mexico which didn’t make sense.
I challenged Trump’s claims last year and said the U.S. would pay for the wall which it appears that is exactly what we are doing. That’s fine, but that is not what Trump said.
Comprende?
Thanks for getting the facts out.
Well, Jim, I’d never looked at it that way before.
I thought paying one way was the equivalent of paying another way.
You say I’m wrong. Very well then, I’m wrong.
You’re a pretty cool guy. Aren’t you?
Who said anything about not big happy with building the wall?
Get a grip. You and I both know Trump promised repeatedly and often that Mexico would pay for the wall (not “the wall will pay for itself”). The wall may very well pay for itself but that was not Trump’s argument or promise during the campaign. Pay attention.
Holding a politician to his promises is not “bellyaching” - it’s called “TRUST BUT VERIFY”, not unlike a treaty. NOT holding politicians to their promises is how we got into this mess to begin with.
If Trump was going to build a wall regardless of who pays for it then he should have said so during the campaign. But he didn’t. Time to wise up and hold politicians accountable for their promises.
Yup. I’m a cool guy.
All I’m saying is if Trump were going to build the wall regardless of how it was paid for, then he should have said so, but he didn’t.
Give him credit for keeping his promise to build the wall but hold him accountable for his promise that Mexico would pay for it with imposed tariffs.
My pleasure. It helps to have the facts on the table prior to taking stances. And if shown evidence to the contrary I’ll be happy to have been proven wrong.
See I’m not someone that takes offense when proven wrong. I embrace it and it’s good to be plagued with self doubt. You grow from it
Then I must be growing big league on the personal side.
Ha Ha
Hahaha!!!
The wall shown in the picture is from an ongoing project, however Mulvaney specifically stated the new money would allow them to purchase more of this type of wall to continue the project.
He also explained this wall is levee wall that is needed along waterways. The reason for the slats is to allow water to flow through when there is a flood. It’s what the Border Patrol wanted installed, because it is the most effective.
Additionally, enforcing immigration policy is our responsibility. If we determine we want a wall, we should pay for it. If President Trump can get Mexico to fund it, then bonus. I wouldn’t expect my neighbor to pay for my fence, well unless he offered.
Israel knows how to build security walls.
Who gives a hoot if Mexico pays for it or not? The money is utterly insignificant. That it gets built is what matters. If that doesn't satisfy you, you're hopeless and just looking for something to be miserable about.
It's this kind of nonsense that makes even principled politicians believe they can't satisfy their base. That makes them more likely to break promise. You'd doing more harm than good, assuming you're not some liberal troll to begin with.
Even Reagan agreed to tax increases for spending cuts (that never happened).
#NeverHappyEver
The reason for the slats is to allow water to flow through when there is a flood.
***********
That is also the prefence of the Border Patrol so they can see thru to what is on the other side.
Mulvaney alluded to that a couple of times in his presentation.
Again all of that is wonderful and give Trump credit for fulfilling his promise to build the wall.
But stick to the point. Trump is accountable for his promise for Mexico to pay with imposed tariffs, which I said all last year was impossible. U.S tariffs imposed on Mexico is NOT how this wall is being paid for.
Common, hold politicians accountable or you ratify wrongful political behavior which includes repeated unfulfilled promises which got us into this mess to begin with.
You speak for the corrupt establishment when you call holding politicians accountable “#NeverHappyEver”. They love hearing that.
99% of conservatives could care less so long as the wall is built.
No politician, not even Reagan, can fulfill every promise. You don't seem to grasp that.
Hee hee....darn those keyboard Border Patrolers ;-)
Why do people use KiB instead of KB or Kb?
Annoying.
Just one thing. The CR was part of the LAST so called Budget under Obama.
It is called a Continuing Resolution because it insures the Money will be there to continue what the original so called Budget outlined while keeping the Government funded.
In other words, it authorized the continued borrowing of funds so the Government would not be “shut down”, whatever the hell that means.
In this case, the new Administration was able to change some parts of the already planned spending, something that I heard has only happened once before.
We may be dealing with Apples versus Oranges here.
Just sayin’...
