Yeah, our media sort of ignores most of South America, we don’t hear much day-to-day news so we are pretty much unaware.

Brazil, Chile and Argentina has an impressive naval arms race in the early 1900s. All three bought dreadnaughts from the UK and the US

Effectively they have two. A blue water navy that has decades of experience, including operating aircraft carriers and submarines as well as a brown water navy that acts as a constabulary on the Amazon River and its tributaries.

Their history includes significant combat in the South Atlantic against German U-Boats in WWII.
