In today’s world, you should be encrypting your digital communications for a variety of reasons. It will stop snooping of all sorts, including government snooping. Unless you’re a very high-profile target, the government won’t bother penetrating your personal electronics - but if it wants to it can, and then even encryption won’t help.

There are efforts to produce entirely open-source computers, those should be possible to fully secure. I don’t believe smart phones will ever be sufficiently secure, possibly by design.

“Sense of entitlement” is an excellent way to put it. And it is spreading like wildfire. I went to a “jobs fair” last week, where I was shepherded through a bunch of invasive questions, like my name, social security number, have I ever been arrested, ever been fired from a job, and all just to be given a personal tour of a jobs website I use every day.

Worse, when I complained to a friend, she said “So what? You could be a terrorist trying to get in.” ACKKKK! I feel like I have landed in 1960’s Russia.
