Rand Paul on Omnibus Spending Bill:‘President Hillary Clinton Would Have Been Proud of This Bill’
breitbart ^ | SEN. RAND PAUL

Posted on 05/03/2017 5:03:00 AM PDT by davikkm

Looking at all the smiling faces on the other side of the aisle, I have to ask: are Democrats still the minority party? You would be tempted to think the $1 trillion government funding deal is like Christmas morning for them, as Republicans have handed them free media to brag about how much of the President’s agenda they have stopped.

You’ll see it in the news as an “Omnibus spending bill,” when it should really be called “the Status Quo Protection Act.” President Hillary Clinton would have been proud of this bill.

It tosses out campaign promises as it continues to fund the military industrial complex and the welfare state.

It not only rejects President Trump’s calls for cuts to multiple agencies, but it increases their funding by millions of dollars.

It paves the way for those agencies to engage in more “use it or lose it” September spending.

It leaves our deficit at well over $500 million.

While good provisions are tucked in, “[o]verall,” as Bloomberg reported, “the compromise resembles more of an Obama administration-era spending bill than a Trump one.”

Instead of legislating from crisis to crisis, Republicans should use fiscal deadlines to articulate the principles that supposedly set us apart – to boldly defend the conservative philosophy that fueled the country’s growth and can lead it into a new era of prosperity.

Yet, for too long, Republican majorities have backed down from those debates. Like Monty Python’s Sir Robin, they have turned and fled from what seems the least bit threatening, with no shortage of people willing to sing their praises for “bravely” doing so.

Actually, I do not have any blind loyalty to Cruz and think he played his cards badly in the end. But he is a heck of a lot better than the rinos when it comes to legislations.

My loyalty is to the constitution. Sorry, but you need to see the bigger picture. The base of this party has never in its history blindly followed a leader like the dems do. If you do not follow through with promises they walk...."read my lips"....a fabulous history lesson of who the republican base actually is. If the base were easily led they would be dems with the constant propaganda we are deluged with daily. Why do you think there are people in the dem power structure that actually think republicans need killing? We are not easily controlled lemmings, we stick out as sore thumbs to them because we bucked the programming. You either understand your base and cater to it or you fall apart.

Yes, since republicans control the House, Senate and the Presidency Trump will get blamed for the rinos betrayal of him with these bills that do not let him keep his campaign promises in a big way. Trump is either going to have to campaign openly against the rinos betraying the party and Trump or he will be tagged with the betrayal.

Riding the Trump high was great.... but there comes a time for reality or drowning and the water is rising fast. If Trump does not succeed then the US is destroyed. It matters that he get it right and that is why your base is complaining and getting mad. You either hear or blindly ignore and call them names, talk down to them or demand they be lemmings, pissing them off even more.

Your reply would have been better if you left out the first two words and capitalized Please.

Taking the Lord’s name in vain is not wise and it’s unnecessary.

You are correct. I should not have read it so fast.

I agree with Rand except for the “military industrial” part. Given the threat that China, Iran, the Norks, and other bad actors pose, and the degradation of the military during the Obamination of Desolation period, we must rebuild our military.

Other than that, Rand is right that one would have assumed this bill was written by Dims.

I stand corrected :-) there comes a time when one gets so fed up seeing hero worship so reminiscent of the 8 years proceeding under Obama and better yet from so called conservatives that enough is enough.

“please give up the Cruz this and Cruz that bogey man memes anytime something is stated perceived as being anti hero worshipper or remotely holding someone to their word or account. THE PRIMARIES ARE OVER! The only ones hell bent on reminding us what occurred during the primaries are those who make their attachment to the man more strongly than they do their conservative principles.”

Well said. I don’t care for the cult of personality that some seem to have. All these guys have feet of clay. Praise them when they do something right and criticize them when they do something wrong.

“Nonsense, the republicans are playing 6 D Multidimensional Layered Extraterrestrial Chess. It only looks like we are losing.”

Excellent. I love the smell of sarcasm in the morning.

Your frustration is appreciated. I’m frustrated too.

Too many lobbyists and too much big donor money corrupting the House and Senate.

Rand is right. No amount of spin will make the funding of planned parenthood ok. He’s supposed to be a team player as the republicans drag us to Hell? I don’t think so.
