Because they were inculcated with radically different character traits, such as patriotism, optimism, honor, conscientiousness, honesty, etc.
Those steel helmets were hard on the head & caused some
hair loss; but they saved lives! - Many of the German boys
just had little cloth caps which wouldn’t stop a bullet.
