The Daily Mail is a scandal sheet. Sure, they're more on the right than the left, but if they get a taste of blood in the water, watch out!

The Guardian and the Observer, its Sunday paper, are farther left than most American media. I'd put them on the fringe. The political cartoons alone are worse than what you see in American papers.

It's noteworthy that they don't put National Review very far to the right at all, but in some ways, they may still be more conservative than The Weekly Standard. Fox News is, all in all, still more conservative than either magazine.

Also, a lot depends on foreign policy. Commentary is pretty far to the right if you mean aggressive or militant in foreign affairs, and the American Conservative is a lot more moderate or liberal when it comes to foreign policy.

If you're taking Breitbart or WND as the standard, TAC probably doesn't belong out there with them on the fringe, because some of their contributors (and scads of their commenters) are quite liberal indeed.

Also, Harper's is a lot more a product of the left-left than the Atlantic, which is more Establishment left. They are out there with the Nation, while the Atlantic and Time don't go quite so far.

Esquire and Rolling Stone are definitely far left, but it's hard to take them seriously as political magazines, the writers and the readers not being as grimly activist as those from, say, the Nation.

What Atkisson does get right is that nowadays, with Donald Trump in the White House, the New Yorker may be further left than such a long-time hard-core left mag like Mother Jones. The people who are yelling extra-loud about Trump drown out those who've been yelling for years and have gotten hoarse over time.
