Sheriff Clarke will do a good job wherever he ultimately lands because he’s that kind of man. My question is how much longer is America going to segregate native Americans by keeping them as victimized wards of the state? Close the reservations, recognize them as ordinary citizens and move on. This current system that is hundreds of years old demeans, stigmatizes and leads to second class citizenship. No more victimization excuses.

I don’t claim to know much about the subject, but I think there are many Native Americans who would fight like hell to prevent the closure of the reservations, because from what I’ve heard they are self-governed, benefit from various government programs unique to their status, and run some of the most lucrative gambling casinos on the planet.
