Tollroads ... 15 minutes of highway spped, interrupted by 30 minutes in line to toss coins in a bucket, or longer if you did not have the correct change, day or night, good weather or crap.

There goes your gas mileage.

There goes your calculated time of travel to granny’s house
.
First time a snowflake has to open their window in a driving winter snow, or a summer’s not-quite-tropical-storm battering the area, they will freak out like a Southern Californian when the rain comes after washing and waxing the car.

Now, in this day of idiocy on the roads, you get somebody who doesn’t understand the language, holding up the line.

Or .... the automatic toll machine malfunctions, and the gate does not raise?

People seem to forget that when CT instituted their income tax, removal of the tolls was a partial consolation prize. Guess that went out the window too in the need to fill the gaping welfare maw. This is what happens when you destroy your manufacturing base and import thousands of useless mouths to feed (see Appendix A: Bridgeport, Waterbury, New Haven),

I remember Connecticut’s unofficial nickname, the Toll Booth State.
In fact a couple of the original toll booths from the late 30’s that were on the Merritt Pkwy have been restored ...
Lived in CT from 1976 until 1992. Drove the Merritt Pkwy all the time ... still have a handful of toll tokens in a box somewhere. The backups at the tolls on I-95 were a bitch ... especially on Friday PM with all the traffic headed east to Cape Cod, etc., at least in the summer. The Greenwich toll was the worst.
