3KM in DIAMETER, There’s not many areas you can build such a runway. Philadelphia airport is built along the Delaware River in the Tinicum Marsh with I-95 hemming it in to the West. A). No room. B) the marshy terrain isn’t going to allow dishing the runway or building up heavy road-bed to achieve the bank. C). In all reality you can’t approach from any point on the compass. Certain areas will deny overflight for political or security reasons. There are a lot of airports in the eastern US with similar problems.
