I do agree however that some sort of split is the only way to settle the differences. But the left will never go for that. They want to control everybody not just their minions.
We, as a nation, have NEVER been as divided as we are today and I'm probably older than you and have not only an excellent memory, but know history!
We are THIS divided, due to many things; not the lest of it the 8 years of Obama.
There WAS a time, in America, when everyone saw the same movies, listened to the same popular music, listened to the same radio shows, then watched the same T.V. shows, and it was only the idiot fringe, who had different views about most things.
No. It’s not even close to the early 1980s. This is MUCH worse
Reagan era did not come close to this Trump era. No comparison at all and it hasn’t even been 100 days..This nation is dangerously divided.
How divided are we now? It’s now vogue to publicly state you want to assassinate the president of the United States.
The Reagan era did not even come close, even though some nut bar did attempted to kill him.
Maybe, but remember, if you're writing for SHTF bright and cheery articles are forbidden.
Stig,
Good point.
Now, what would the writer of the SHTF site think about the antiwar protests of the 60’s, if he were writing then?
We were near the breaking point then also ...
There are some "Eras of Good Feeling" when the country isn't very divided.
The Eisenhower-Kennedy years were the last one. The years around 1820 were the original "Era of Good Feeling." Maybe the 1880s, midway between the Civil War/Reconstruction and the Populist revolt were another, and the 1920s a third. For all the talk now about the Progressive era, we were less divided a century ago than we are now.
But since the mid-1960s the country's been sharply divided. More so during Vietnam than in the later 70s and 80s. I'd say the country is more divided now than it was in the Reagan years, but how much of that is real and how much is a result of the Internet?
