Former Vermont governor and Democratic National Comittee chairman Howard Dean called out conservative pundit Ann Coulter on Twitter. Dean said, "Hate speech is not protected by the first amendment."

The country is in a cold civil war. If these people keep losing I’m a bit concerned they may try a “french revolution” style revolt. Not that they’ll win, but I’d rather this war stay cold.
“The First Amendment is most certainly to protect “hate” speech or any other unpopular speech. That’s The whole point. Popular speech doesn’t need a First Amendment.”
So far as I am concerned, “ANTIFA” stands for “Anti-First Amendment.”
Under the smarmy face of a liberal like Howard Dean is a traitor to the United States of America.
The dying left pulling at straws.
Assuming Dean is the decider of what’s hate speech.
Best post.
Of course the Democrats determine what is and what is not hate speech. According to the Democrats anything that anyone says that they do not like is automatically "hate speech."
But Howard, the First Amendment was put out there to protect people who want to say things you do not agree with.
Have you forgotten Berkeley and its "free speech" filth? With the communists in charge Berkeley now is against free speech is it not?
Hate Speech = Anything THE LEFT disagrees with.
Hate is coming from their side!! Attacks are their They are not the judge and jury of the world...
They have taken over the universities... and now, sending a young person to college is spending money to have your child turned into a progressive idiot.
Howard Dean—one of the loudest purveyors of hate speech today.
We are no longer dealing with liberals. Genuine liberals in my youth would oftentimes say that while they might disagree vehemently with what I had to say, that they would defend to the death my right to say it. However, the last genuine liberal is somewhere in a nursing home drooling and crapping in his or her pants. We are now dealing with Leftists. Leftist care only about winning, and they don’t care how they do it. They might prefer to do it politely, but they all understand that that will not be possible. Therefore, they moved to Plan B, which is to first shut us up. They cannot win if they don’t do that. The fact that the First Amendment was specifically drafted and placed into the Bill of Rights to protect the right of any person to criticize the prevailing wisdom of the day means nothing to them. When it doesn’t work for them, they throw it in the trash.
Democrats = Leftists = Communists/Fascists. Please get that straight in your mind, then you will really understand what is going on.
Me too.
Was this before or after he sealed his gubenatorial records from public view?
“Hmmmm - really? Do to safety concerns... “
Overseeing the massive decline in circulation of the Tallahassee Democrat was a black, female editor. To call her outlook racist was to put it mildly. During her tenure more and more Blacklish found its way into editorials. At the time I worked for an Israeli company. The Israeli managers and engineers all spoke English as a second language. For the most part their English followed the grammar rules more than those of us born here. Now, we’re talking about people who are super-liberal. They discussed how ignorant the Democrat’s writers sounded and after being called racist in print a few times, several of them stopped taking the paper and moved over to the Wall Street Journal.
I am all in favor of bad grammar in major paper liberal print news. It runs off the cream of their support.
“Anti-fa means anti first amendment”
Perfect.
Unfortunately for us, the 1st amendment protects Howard Dean’s “Stupid Speech”.
1) First of all, yes it is. The First Amendment makes no exception for “hate speech.” It doesn’t even mention the term, which is just fascist shorthand for “anything that questions our sacred orthodoxy.”
2) It isn’t hate speech just because Howard Dean says it is. He doesn’t have the authority to regulate the words that come out of peoples’ mouths.
You must be careful with your homophonies.
Hate-speech is whatever Howard Hochstetter decides it is...
