Washington (CNN)US authorities have prepared charges to seek the arrest of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, US officials familiar with the matter tell CNN. The Justice Department investigation of Assange and WikiLeaks dates to at least 2010, when the site first gained wide attention for posting thousands of files stolen by the former US Army intelligence analyst now known as Chelsea Manning. Prosecutors have struggled with whether the First Amendment precluded the prosecution of Assange, but now believe they have found a way to move forward.

"Instead of worrying about Assaage leaking CIA’s methods of snooping on Americans, Trump should be slamming the door on this illegal CIA malfeasance."

Why not BOTH? Why is only one option possible in your view?

If the U.S. gov't didn't IMPORT millions of Chinese spies, ISIS terrorists, MS-13 and other various illegal alien criminals, SPYING ON AMERICANS WOULDN'T BE NECESSARY!!!

There is a necessity defense. Sometimes the law can ensconce the immoral. All you are saying is that a robot is a robot.

They could start by prosecuting Clapper for perjuring himself to Congress. Unfortunately Trump seems to have zero interest in cleaning out the CIA, FBI, DIA and the rest. Nobody ever gets fired, let alone prosecuted.

Maybe this is another Trump chess move. In exchange for immunity Assange could be negotiated into dumping everything. The US might then put Assange into witness protection. But the accusation gives Trump a place to start. As long as Assange is in that embassy the US can probably do nothing but try Assange in absentia.

Well if they arrest Assange they also need to arrest all the media personnel and the government officials who have leaked classified personnel.

I was not that happy when they announced Pompeo in the first place.

I suspect Jared & Ivanka are pushing for the arrest from their social ties.

IF Assange is brought to trial in the USA — that trial could reveal some very interesting things. Perhaps a deal is in the making.

I am surprised by this, though can see why a CIA type like Pompeo, new to the job & wanting to impress the troops, would ask Sessions to do this.

Why for the life of me they don’t go after Soros is a mystery.

Aassage is not a spy.

Just like Steve Ballmer is not a computer engineer.

One doesn't have to do the "deed" directly in order to get the deed done.

If Assange and Wikileaks were not in the business of gathering intelligence illegally, then that intelligence would not have a customer, and probably no direct inside-the-intelligence-community "informant".

It shouldn't be that hard to understand. If I don't consume bananas and the rest of the world stopped consuming bananas, there would be no banana distributors and no banana pickers.

...legitimate whistleblowers aren't nominated

Legitimate whistleblowers? Now there's a real strawman for you!

So, what gave Assange the authority to become a whistleblower, or the right to distribute information gathered illegally from data banks that contain secrets which contain information that could damage the country and/or people that the information pertains to?
