Washington (CNN)US authorities have prepared charges to seek the arrest of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, US officials familiar with the matter tell CNN. The Justice Department investigation of Assange and WikiLeaks dates to at least 2010, when the site first gained wide attention for posting thousands of files stolen by the former US Army intelligence analyst now known as Chelsea Manning. Prosecutors have struggled with whether the First Amendment precluded the prosecution of Assange, but now believe they have found a way to move forward.

Trump is going to lose a big chunk of his base over this.

Instead of worrying about Assaage leaking CIA’s methods of snooping on Americans, Trump should be slamming the door on this illegal CIA malfeasance.

Big effin mistake.

Assange gets the book thrown at him while Hillary skates.

It's as if Obama still controls the DOJ.

It is in a word stupid. You sure this is a Trump decision? Or perhaps intel community speaking out of turn?

What are the charges? Unlawful journalism?

Everything and anything Wikileaks produces is already compromised information.

And how many times has the NY Times, CNN and Washington Post obtained and leaked highly classified information in the couple of years?

Arrest those bastards.

Prosecutors have struggled with whether the First Amendment precluded the prosecution of Assange, but now believe they have found a way to move forward.

Prosecutors were looking for a way to allow a criminal to get away with a crime. A crime is a crime is a crime...

The first amendment was not intended to protect someone from prosecution if the crime committed was the cause of harm to others, including people and business entities and government entities.

A person does not have the right to yell fire in a crowded theater, and neither does he/she have the right to protection under the constitution, if that person had committed crimes detrimental to one's life, and in the case of Assange, hundreds and perhaps as many as millions of lives were put in danger via his "spying" operation. No one can hold up the first amendment in one hand, while pulling the "trigger" with the other hand.

I don’t care about his motives; I care that he revealed the shocking extent to which the information we receive is controlled, censored, and manipulated.

After they finish putting in jail all those whose crimes were revealed by wikileaks, THEN they can worry about prosecuting Assange.

Otherwise, the motives of those seeking to prosecute him (and who are not outraged about the rest) must be suspect.

Nonsense. Prosecute the effin leakers withing CIA, not the publisher of the leaks. And while were at it, shut down all the UNCONSTITUTIONAL DOMESTIC SPYING committed by the CIA and NSA and FBI

But for God using Assange to expose Hillary, her campaign, and the DNC, we may very well have been under a Clinton presidency. He deserves a medal and a pardon, not an indictment!

“It is in a word stupid. You sure this is a Trump decision? Or perhaps intel community speaking out of turn?”

Seems like it’s coming from Jeff Sessions, who said at a press conference today Assange’s arrest was ‘a priority’.
