Ha. I had an overnight job in High School guarding Fiber Optic cables being laid under the I10 Pascagoula bridge.
One side for an hour, then drive across to the other side for an hour. That bridge is hard enough sober. Don’t get me started!
It’s strange, but that one, and the Popps Ferry, the I-110, etc, local bridges don’t bother me. (It only got me that night because I’d already faced down the Mobile series of bridges and was really really tired). Bridges that aren’t divided in the middle and aren’t narrow don’t bother me, like the new Ocean Springs bridge. But old, narrow bridges, bridges that are divided in the middle, or have low sides that let me easily see the water, and especially bridges which have a steep incline/decline, I just can’t do.
My husband has driven everywhere, in all conditions, and is an intrepid (and very good, he taught me when we married) driver, and even he gets a little antsy on some bridges, like Huey P Long, amd that Sunshine Skyway or whatever it’s called, in Florida. But to him, these things are a challenge to be defeated. I wish I could feel that way about it.
