I had to refresh my history knowledge on "Bleeding Kansas" / "Bloody Kansas" over at Wiki. My God, the parallels starting with the Kansas–Nebraska Act of 1854 ARE amazing. That is a most apt analogy, indeed.

This has been simmering in the US for at least 50 years now, just about the same amount of time it took for the Civil War to turn hot.
