US says nearly 800 ISIS members on ground when ‘Mother of All Bombs’ dropped
New York Post ^ | 4/13/2017 | Bob Frederic

The United States on Thursday dropped the most powerful non-nuclear bomb in its arsenal on an ISIS stronghold in Afghanistan — a strike President Trump hailed as “very, very successful.”

The US estimates that 600 to 800 ISIS terrorists were on the ground in Afghanistan, mostly in Nangarhar, conducting strikes on government and US forces while battling the rival Taliban.

So there were 800 Isis fighters and we only killed around a hundred. The MOAB has a strike zone of a one mile radius... How could we only kill one percent?

I would imagine a large percentage within the blast radius were vaporized. An accurate count of casualties would be impossible IMO.

That's why the countries were formed in they way they were after WW2. Kept them fighting each other and left the West alone...

Leave it alone to destroy itself or live by itself in its prehistoric ways

We did that. It is how we got 9/11. We left them alone, and they organized with a safe zone, and attacked us.

We learned that lesson, or should have from Vietnam. Do not give your enemy safe zones.

The discovery of large rare-earths there rendered it impossible for it to be left alone.

800 Isis fighters does not mean that there were 800 within the blast radius. 700 of them might have been elsewhere in Afghanistan.

100 out of 800 is 12.5% (you might want to check your math).

From the article:

“The US estimates that 600 to 800 ISIS terrorists were on the ground in Afghanistan, mostly in Nangarhar, conducting strikes on government and US forces while battling the rival Taliban.”

600 to 800 *in Afghanistan*, most in Nangarhar (a big place, an entire province, almost 3,000 square miles).

We do not know how many were inside the blast radius of the MOAB.

100 out of 800 is 12.5%. And who knows, the number of killed might still be adjusted upward...

You are smarter than that. We do not know how many were on site when we dropped the MOAB.

We might have killed 100 percent of those that were present.

Nangarhar province is a big place.

Afghanistan is a 3rd world sh!thole. But can anybody name a Muslim country that isn't one? It goes hand and fist right along with that weird, demonic religion.

It is a real problem what to do with peoples and countries like this because a major part of their religion is exporting their wretched, murderous, slavery-soaked pathologies to the rest of the world by force.

The best we can do is keep it out of the West (by force if necessary) and outlaw it as we wisely used to do the Communist and Nazi Parties. We are not going to "reform" this religion or it's institutions because at it's core it is irredeemable. Fourteen centuries of murder and war and hundreds of millions of corpses have amply proven that for any and all to see. All we can reasonably do is isolate this deadly demonic infection. Leave it to the Holy Spirit to either change it's adherents or allow them to destroy themselves and not overrun us.

There is no reason why we can't have some diplomatic and commercial relations with then but keep them at a long arm's length and do not allow any to settle in our countries. Mosques and/or being a member of this wicked cult should be outlawed within our own borders. Only then could we manage some semblance of peace with these psychos. If for some reason they get nuclear weapons (like Pakistan) destroy their capability while we can.

Tough to get a body count when some of the bad guys were vaporized and others buried in their tunnels. Regardless of the body count, the message was received.

I have always taken this route, kill the terrorist and pull out or operate a couple of bases and periodically just go out and kill bad guys who are a threat to the US.

Bush listened to Colin Bowel’s crap you break it you own it line. Says who? Let this crap hole devolve back to a 7th century cesspool and spread the word you operate in Afghanistan and attack Americans and you will wake up with your throats cut or hear the whistle of an incoming US missile. You leave us alone, we leave you alone. But I wouldn’t waste another drop of blood and treasure on this rat hole.

“I keep asking - what’s the mission in 2017?”

Two. Foreign Internal Defense, in support of the Government of Afghanistan, and Counter-Terrorism.

“My friends in Kabul say that this bomb really changed things.

It’s as though they just cut off the snakes head. There was much more to this than a few Taliban & ISIS.”

Looks like it was the headquarters, or main support base, just inside the Afghan border from Pakistan (terrorist surrogates are their specialty). Probably disrupted their whole operation in country, and it will take a while to get everyone organized again. A lot of dispersed elements are probably laying low, until somebody gets back from Pakistan with new instructions.

I hope they timed the strike to catch high activity, but no doubt it was a worthwhile target anytime. It would likely have been a rich source to exploit for intel as well - like a quick heli-borne assault while the survivors are still staggering around, deaf and concussed, and all the mines and booby traps have been cleared by the blast.
