The United States on Thursday dropped the most powerful non-nuclear bomb in its arsenal on an ISIS stronghold in Afghanistan a strike President Trump hailed as very, very successful.
The US estimates that 600 to 800 ISIS terrorists were on the ground in Afghanistan, mostly in Nangarhar, conducting strikes on government and US forces while battling the rival Taliban.

“ISIS was fighting the Taliban?”
They were fighting with al Queda too. They broke off from al Queda a few years ago in a disagreement over tactics, strategy, and who would be boss. They have competed and fought with each other for three or four years, but it looks like ISIS may have to fold back into al Queda this year, when they lose their territory, and have to go covert.
Anybody who tries to muscle in to Afghanistan will have to fight the Taliban. That term has been extended beyond just the original Pakistani surrogates, to cover just about all the loosely aligned Pashtun tribesmen who are engaged in illegal activity (half of Afghanistan’s GDP is from opium poppy - they produce about 90% of the world’s heroin). Most of the Pashtun countryside has powerful gangs who don’t want interference from any Government or outsiders.
For all their downsides, they are not fearful people - they won’t take much crap from anyone.
Thank you for succinctly saying exactly how I feel/think about that sand box. Unless there’s an absolute need for an American to be there; it should just be considered a no man’s land.
Just leave it alone. Who knows, if the rest of the world ends up blowing itself up to extinction, maybe that rat hole with its caveman mentality will survive and continue the human race such as it is. Not really sure it would be much better than if no one survived but at least someone might live to tell the story of how we ended life as we know it on this big blue marble. Their hard and backward ways without running water or electricity may be exactly what saves them. Who are we to tell them they must change. Just leave them alone as you said.
I keep asking - what’s the mission in 2017? There does not seem to be one.
I think the bombs should be filled with pork products, to ensure that the vanquished never receive their virgin girls and little boys in the afterlife.
I love the number climbing up. This is winning.
My friends in Kabul say that this bomb really changed things.
It’s as though they just cut off the snakes head. There was much more to this than a few Taliban & ISIS.
“And they forgot to bring children to *H*ide behind? How did we manage that?”
So okay that is how it works when you do not telegraph the attack. The modus operandi is clear and repeatable. When they hear there’s going to be an attack they will surround themselves with Women and Children and claim it’s a big Wedding. If your OpSec is solid then you don’t have this problem. They’re busy with their Goats and Gun grease when suddenly they become toasted. They didn’t even have time to prep for the jihad.
The whitehouse in the past Obama admin was full of Islamic agents so there was 20 different ways that the signal would go out into the wild telegraphing an attack. So every time an attack was coming they would turn their operational planning meeting into a big Islamic wedding party complete with armed guards and children playing with candy flowers. Donald Trump closed that door and now look we have a successful operation finally. Let the military do their job without Johnson style whitehouse micromanagement.
most were vaporized beyond any recovery of remains
For later good news.
Is that Barry Gibb in the photo?
Probably not a great idea.
Pakistan has about 130 nuclear bombs. There are many in the ISI who would love to slip some of those to the various Jihadist groups around the globe.
. . . and Jeff Lynne on the right?
But only 90 killed?
As a point of reference, temperature inside modern crematorium is 1400-1800 degrees.
Had to Google Lynne, but yes it does look like him. How odd...
Micro - seconds after, parts of them were flying about in the air. HAHAHAHAAAAAAA.
Should have been an album cover.
So there were 800 Isis fighters and we only killed around a hundred. The MOAB has a strike zone of a one mile radius... How could we only kill one percent? Did we miss? Sounds like a show of force with a 1percent impact. It made me hopeful we meant business.. now I am thinking they are laughing at our strike.
Best Hidden Nugget:
They are “battling the rival Taliban”.
If we play our cards right we can maneuver them into wiping each other out.
