GPs 'bribed' to NOT send patients for cancer tests: NHS pays millions for rationing hip ops…[UK]

GPs are being paid millions by the NHS to ration referrals for operations, scans and even cancer tests, an investigation reveals today.

Family doctors are being offered the financial incentives in a bid to slash the number of patients they send to hospital for a variety of procedures.

The incentives mostly cover non-urgent referrals for hip and knee replacements, cataract surgery, hearing tests and abdomen scans. But two health trusts have included urgent cancer scans in their schemes, and another two covered heart tests.

Patient groups said the payments were ‘profoundly wrong’, while one MP likened them to ‘bribes’. Doctors’ leaders are also deeply opposed to the schemes, branding them an ‘offensive slur’ on GPs’ medical judgement.

Details of the payments came after figures showed the NHS endured the worst winter crisis in its history, with bed-blocking and waiting times at, or near, record highs. The service is also facing a funding crisis as it struggles to meet the demands of the aging population and migration. …

And it looks like our RINOs want to bring that to our shores instead of bringing back normal health care.

This article doesn’t mean much to me, I couldn’t get past the acronym-soup. What is a GP? What is NHS? Acronym 101: if you’re going to throw one in there, put its proper name in parentheses the first time you use it. The editor should be fired.

GP = “general practitioner”, equivalent to “primary care physician” over here.

NHS = National Health Service of the UK, created by the Labour Party right after the end of World War II. Even that acronym ought to be well-known over here (and on FR), since the Dems have tried to copy it ever since its creation.

You must be the only one on FR who does not understand the acronyms.

Their way of dealing with an over-stressed system. Essentially its their own version of “death panels”.

The last place you voluntarily want to go is a hospital.

Well, that is the problem with a three sided arrangement. When the party that pays is not the consumer or the provider guess what the priorities are!

Well, it is a British paper. Though the NHS is pretty infamous everywhere. If you start partaking of British media, you soon pick up on the Brit speak. One of my favorites is OAP, old age pensioners, which is Brit speak for geezers. The US and UK. Two countries separated by a common language ;-)

Well, of course, the American people don’t understand much, and what they do know is often deadly wrong.

I know, I’m a goof because I actually expect professionals to write properly. As an engineer, if I wrote something like this, my boss would throw it right back at me with a terse “try again”. I’m so ignorant for not knowing the healthcare system of a different country, please come over to my house and punch me.

Which baffles me as to why so many women go to the doctor recreationally. “Oh, my left little toe-nail hurts, I’m off to the doctor.” “Oh, I pulled a muscle, gotta go to the doctor.” I’m baffled by this behavior.
