Pulitzer prize-winning columnist Peggy Noonan writes in the Wall Street Journal about the efforts to take out White House strategist Steve Bannon. While offering a candid assessment of Bannons shortcomings and strengths, Noonan summarizes Bannons populist and nationalist worldview as outlined in a speech he gave at the Vatican in 2014 a speech that predicted the issues that propelled Trump to victory in 2016.
From Noonans column:
But theres something low, unseemly and ugly in the efforts to take [Bannon] out so publicly and humiliatingly, to turn him into a human oil spot on the tarmacthis not only from his putative colleagues but now even the president. I like Steve, but you have to remember he was not involved in my campaign until very late, Mr. Trump purred to the New York Posts Michael Goodwin.
What will take its place if [Bannon] leaves the White House or recedes as a figure? What worldview will prevail, to the extent Mr. Trump does worldviews? Policy changes accompanying Mr. Bannons diminishment this week included the presidents speaking approvingly of the Export-Import Bank and NATO, declaring that China isnt a currency manipulator after all, suggesting the dollar may be too strong, and hitting Syria and Afghanistan.
None of that sounds like Candidate Trump.

Even if I approve of a harder line against the DPRK and Syria/Russia that is not what Trump campaigned on. He said he was tired of the USA being the worlds policeman. He should keep his promises.
Rush went on a ten minute riff about this yesterday. He was basically saying the media always tells us who they fear.
Yeah, me too.
I think Trump has done some great things but I am troubled by three things: 1) his trashing of Bannon in the NY Post - ya dance with the one that brung ya’ and Bannon brought him to the presidency along with the voters that the Democrats in the WH could give a damn about; 2) elevating this 34 year old son in law to several exalted positions, none of which he seems remotely qualified for; and, 3) putting Gary Cohn, Dina Whatsername, Quinn and others in seemingly rising WH positions and I doubt they even voted for him. If I were you, Mr. Trump, I would not revert to Bush I, who had time for conservatives only at Election Time when he needed them; he found out in 1992 that many of us could just as easily vote for Perot. If you are relying on the country club crowd, there aren’t enough of them and they probably won’t vote for you anyway.
AMEN!
Noonen feeds the problem, keeps the dirty socks in the press belt, under the pretense of defending Bannon’s dignity.
Peggy is a liberal causing trouble for Bannon in this case.
Let’s just see how depressed we can make Bannon, so he gets a phantom clue and gives up and goes away. That seems to be the models operandi, here.
I think Bannon should just resign and leave to keep his dignity.
“Trump said NATO was obsolete”
Yes, he did say that, but he would always enumerate strategies that NATO could take that would make it current, up-to-date.
Well said.
Who’s this “LS” feller?
I don’t consider noise from the #NeverTrump crowd as any indication of what “the base” is thinking, and certainly not what President Trump is thinking.
I’m still happy I voted for him and that he’s POTUS. Not tired of winning yet! It does seem like all the NeverTrumpers and NeverHappyEver are posting a lot lately.
You sick pup. What a load of manure. Are you just home from the gulag? Any pedestrian has heard of Trump’s accomplishments. That’s why even the stupid people hate Trump. Hes a human buzz saw. He’s kicking their @zz.
Wake up, or don’t post. You’re embarrassing yourself. Or...
should be.
Peggy was relevant during the Reagan years, then she slobbered over Obama.
I didn’t read the article, but there needed to be an understanding with this Pope made by someone. Pope Jorge is getting bought by Soros forces and giving Trump a hard time is a priority. Bannon would be just the guy to say we’re on to you, or else pull his ear and tell him he’s been had. 30 pieces of silver comes to mind, but that’s a guess.
Trump won't get rid of Common Core
Haha! You must be a joy at parties...or anywhere.
So Hillary would have been better? Or Cruz, not that he would have won even against Hillary, lol.
No this is all an effort by the DC political class the get us to think it is Kushner vs Bannon. It is not they are on the same side. It is gossip and rumor spread to get us to turn against Trump
Ignore it all
It is not true. There is not an establishment rise in Trumps WH. There is an effort to get us to react. It is the DC political class trying to take out both Bannon and Kushner at the same time
Relax and ignore
I listened closely and it changed my thoughts. I have come to believe that this is an effort to take out Kushner and Bannon at the same time.....hence I believe nothing about it
