Stephen F. Cohen, professor emeritus of Russian studies at New York University and Princeton, spoke Thursday evening with Fox News' Tucker Carlson about the latest shoes to drop in the investigations into the Trump campaign's possible ties to Russia.
The Wall Street Journal reported late Thursday that Michael Flynn, President Trump's former national security advisor, has told the FBI and congressional investigators that he is willing to be interviewed in exchange for a grant of immunity from prosecution -- not a particularly good sign for the Trump White House.
Cohen, one of the country's foremost experts on Russia, has been arguing for months that the anti-Russia hysteria in Washington, D.C., is becoming a "grave national security threat."
Carlson began the discussion by bringing up what he sees as the core issue -- the allegations that the Russian government "hacked our election" by breaking into email accounts at the DNC and the Clinton campaign office.
"Everyone assumes this is true," he said. "We're all operating under the assumption that it's true. Do we know it's true?"
"No," Cohen answered flatly. "And if you listen to the hearings at the Senate today, repeatedly it was said -- particularly by Senator Warner, the Democratic co-chair of the proceedings -- that Russia had hijacked our democracy. What he means is that, the Russians, at Putin's direction, had gone into the Democratic National Committee's emails, which were embarrassing to Mrs. Clinton, given them to Wikileaks, Wikileaks then released them to damage Mrs. Clinton and put Trump in the White House."

I watched this last night. This professor was spot on.
But, then, when have they ever bothered to present facts to back up their accusations?

Ask yourself....if you wanted to ‘hack’ into the election...how would you do it?
The only logical way is to get into the poll listings and add voters....then without an ID, they’d vote. So, if anyone accepts this whole fake story...the way to fix this is simple ID checks as you register to vote, and as you vote.
Just look how Iowa, once a reliable, liberal blue state has trended Republican in recent elections, nothing to do with anybody hacking just a trend of an ageing population becoming more conservative. Same dynamics in WI, MI, and PA.
What little I read of Wikileaks was entertainment. Had nothing to do with swaying my vote. Hillary as president to too horrible to contemplate.
The assertion that the Russians somehow “hacked” the election was a fantasy from the beginning. They are simply not in position to do whatever could be done.
But George Soros might be. Unfortunately, he chose to back the wrong candidate in this race, and while highly successful in California, and some degree in Chicago and New York City, There was just not enough “there” there. The Democrat bench was just too shallow to permit a viable candidate to be nominated and successfully promoted to the point where various election frauds would have been more effective than they were.
This professor was spot on.

Indeed he was. We have been saying the same thing here at FR for many moons. Now the Dems are working hard to find evidence to back up a story they invented themselves. So far all they can seem to dig up is that “... some of Trump’s people know and actually talk occasionally to Russians”.
And, unfortunately, our side takes the bait. We engage in endless explanations as to how little a case demonicRATS have instead of taking the opportunity that the attention garners to inform people how demonicRATS are the ones breaking the law. Everything from fraudulently registering voters to tossing out boxfuls of ballots to rigging primaries, etc.
Even if you concede the liberal talking-points and accept that that “Russia” hacked the DNC computer system and leaked the Podesta et al emails which damaged Hillary in the election, there is a fatal flaw in their logic:
How do they know it was “Russia” and not someone using the CIA tools we learned about in the Vault 7 releases to make it appear as if it were Russia?
Analogy: I see a man wearing a red baseball hat trying to break into my car. I can’t just claim Donald Trump was the perp because he wears MAGA hats, I still have to prove that HE was the person wearing the hat that I saw.
