I believe scrap bronze is only running about $1.50 a pound and with this ship's propellers at about 25 tons (guesstimate), it seems to me that these scrapyards are missing out on some big bucks.

It would be great to see them strike a commemorative coin and sell 'em at around $10 a pop, and rake in the dough.

Years back, I bought one made from the propellers of the USS Olympia (Span Am War) and feel I have a nice piece of history.

I like your idea of a bronze coin.

I did some work years ago in the dry dock in Bremerton - working underneath the USS Constellation. They had the entire thing sitting up on wooden timbers. The juxtaposition of this huge “modern” steel warship being supported by wood was weird - and then walking (hunched over) below her doing work.

They were stripping her before heading her out to be salvaged. The propellers were already off.
