The passenger is being treated for injuries in a Chicago hotel

United Airlines' parent company CEO Oscar Munoz on Tuesday apologized to the passenger dragged off a flight over the weekend.

"Like you, I continue to be disturbed by what happened on this flight and I deeply apologize to the customer forcibly removed and to all the customers aboard," Munoz wrote in a memo to his team. "No one should ever be mistreated this way."

Brief Marriage Preceded Fatal Calif. School Shooting The passenger has been identified as Dr. David Dao, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, NBC News reported. The Associated Press also confirmed that Dao is the man in the video.

Yeah, some grown man acts like a three year old told that Disney land is closing. And you expect me to get up and attack the cop who has to remove him from the plane?

Or do you assert some new right for a passenger to over rule the captain? They weren’t smart or tactful maybe, but the airline had a right to do it.
Maybe they should have offered more cash or whatever. But you have a screw loose if you think the cops needed to be attacked because they had to remove someone from that private property.

Do you know if the employees were UA or were they from some other airline?
I’ve looked and can’t find a definity answer as to who they worked for.

The flight was not overbooked. United decided at the last minute to kick 4 passengers off to make space for a flight crew headed to the same destination.

If you take money in advance from me to take me someplace? Damned right you should have to take me there, period, no excuses and if I could make you pay with everything you own for not fulfilling something you agreed to do - you bet your a$$ I’d have the meanest lawyer I could find looking at every asset. To me schedules, agreements and contracts are sacred.

You think but you don’t know for sure? Not that it matters but I was curious if they
were UA or if they were from a different airline. I’m sure Fed Regs governing the
procedures for this type procedure. At some point it may all come out in legal proceedings.

Why was he complicit? He paid for a service. He expected to receive this service fairly.

They told him to leave the aircraft, and he refused. His expectations really had nothing to do with it. He was right to take exception, and wrong to not comply.

That’s not an apology to Dr. Dao. Muñoz should’ve picked up the phone and called the good doctor directly...or better yet...visited him in the hospital.

Flight was overbooked, and somebody had to go.

Apparently it actually wasn't overbooked, at least that is what USA Today is reporting.

I don’t know who came up with that BS about UAL stock taking a dump, but it ain’t true.

At the close today the loss to stockholders was only about 250 million dollars. It would have been twice that if traders hadn't bought on the dip.

It would have been a lot cheaper to just fly the 4 crew members to Louisville on a chartered jet. Or convince them to make an exception to the union rules and ride in a limo.

The flight was NOT overbooked. He had a reserved seat. United wanted to kick him out of his seat in order to give it to one of their own employees.

This was a personnel decision and not a booking error.

Their employees could have taken another flight, or if United wanted to ensure these employees would get a seat, they could have reserved the seats for their employees. This was strictly a financial decision. They were hoping at least 4 paying customers would get stuck in traffic and miss the flight. But since the flight was already 2 hours late in taking off, they all got there on time.

They were greedy and now they get to see the consequences of their greed.

I had trouble believing this story, when I first saw it.

Personally, if I’d been in this doctor’s position, I would have behaved like a mature professional rather than an addled victim, taken the money, rented a car, driven the 4 or so hours to Louisville, done the morning rounds at the hospital and, then, I would have blasted United on every internet outlet possible and used every ounce of influence I had to get the attention of corporate.

Bad things happen, sometimes, that require evasive and creative solutions, but you should always try to avoid making a fool out of yourself.

I think this stupid practice of compelling customers to change their plans at the pleasure of the airline should be stopped. Paying customers should have a reasonable expectation of getting what they pay for and being bumped by VIP employees plopping their rears in their seats makes them hopping mad. There are extenuating circumstances and then there are contrived and predictable circumstances. United has proven that it has very little respect for it’s clientele and, for that, the clientele should punish them.

Regarding Chicago airport security and their thuggish behavior, I think an investigation is required. Manhandling a person who’s not committed a crime and dragging them off of an airplane sounds dangerously close to assault to me. Airport security staff needs to be reminded of their boundaries and told to keep their bulldogs on a leash.

Airline travel, in general, has become so degraded and degrading that I rarely chose it. I will drive or take the train, if at all possible.
