Did folks actually read the whole article?

“It is clear to all of us that the reign of the Assad family is coming to an end,” he said. “But the question of how that ends and the transition itself could be very important in our view to the durability, the stability inside of a unified Syria.”

“That’s why we are not presupposing how that occurs,” Tillerson added.”

Now how does a rational person read this & think Syria will = Iraq or Libya? I don’t understand you folks who repeat the sad defeatism of the past when thus far President Trump hasn’t acted like W or Obama thus far in his foreign policy.

Perhaps many posting in this thread missed Mr Robinson’s recent post.

I thank God every day for President Trump and pray for his continuing success

I thank God every day for President Trump and pray for his continuing success. Had Trump not entered the race, the GOPe would have delivered the nomination to Jeb Bush and then Her Royal Heinous Hillary would be sitting in the White House today.

Those who think that doesn’t make any difference whatsoever are perfectly free to post somewhere else.

God bless President Trump.

God bless America.

Is that the only option? No. It’s the fallacy of too few alternatives. See post 60. T-Rex is in Russia, Trump and his cabinet are strategic thinkers, a team of strategic thinkers like we’ve never seen before. They are not operating with the same old mindsets we are so used to seeing. Yet that is where so many put them - in a box where they clearly don’t fit.

You don’t know or understand the course of events. Your approach is the approach of Russia and formerly the US/Trump. They had agreed to have a replacement government (coalition government) to replace the Assad government after wiping out ISIS and Al Qaeda. The necons don’t want this. They want a failed state ala Iraq so there is no functioning state which can project any threats outside of its borders. The only way to create a failed state is protect the jihadis (which the Tomahawk strike did because planes used from there were successfully attritting the jihadis). The staged Sarin incident was planned to destroy these air assets to protect the jihadi fighting force and lay the groundwork for an Iraq and Libya-esque military action. U.S. special forces will assist the jihadis in overrunning Damascus and Syrian government areas. It will look like Libya with many more dead and enslaved and brutalized Christians and other minorities. Trump became Dick Cheney on bath salts after looking at a staged picture. Or so says the PR.

During the U.S. invasion of Iraq, Syria’s Assad regime was helping insurgents to cross the border and kill Americans.

For those who, for other excellent reasons, support leaving Assad in place: Read this excerpt from the article twice.:

President Bashar al-Assad and his allies Iran and the militant group Hezbollah.

President Bashar al-Assad and his allies Iran and the militant group Hezbollah.

If Trump really wants to make a deal with Russia to oust Assad he is going to have to offer Russia that Syrian port. Nothing else will do. Perhaps he could extract a reversal of Russian support for Iran in the the process. But that is a long shot.

Also this would be turning over leadership of Syria to the Sunnis. To do that you need to find a Syrian General Sisi (President of Egypt.) I suspect that it is not an easy task to find him and guide the Syrian people in that direction. We might end up with another Muslim Brotherhood Syrian ruler. Or a ruler who is unable to control his country.

Put a moderate muslim in his place and the rebels will still fight because he’s not jihad enough.

The biggest “if” for any change is Syria is will the new kids on the block allow the Russians to keep their bases there?

And replaced with what? The swamp indeed needs drained. The same crew who had no plan for Iraq or Libya are still there.

The point can be argued but most refugees seem to be fleeing Assad, if Assad stays, more refugees will be coming. So, should zones be set up in Syria so the refugees are not going to the West? That was discussed during the election.

Found this comment on another site earlier today.

The thing with Trump is you ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS have to wait a while to make any kind of accurate judgment about what he just said or did. If you react immediately, you’re going to have egg on your face. Count on it! There are several reasons for this. One, of course, is the lying, grossly inaccurate media. The other is Trump’s amazing chess playing abilities, his unwillingness to tell anyone what he’s up to, and his unpredictable nature (I prefer to call it “creativity”).

So far, the man has kept every campaign promise; he has his goals and strategies to MAGA firmly in mind (he IS a businessman, after all); and he seems to be moving forward methodically (and yet creatively as needed).

So you’re left with a decision–will you trust Trump and wait for the motive behind his actions to be revealed or will you react and write him off prematurely (based on what you THINK you know–not what the real truth is)?

Who says ISIS is coming to power? Only people who follow Putin/Iranian propaganda. ISIS is rolled back in Syria and that is no thanks to Assad and Putin where the fighting is still going on in the suburbs.
