Three decades after this tiny Central American nation became the prize in a Cold War battle with Washington, Russia is once again planting its flag in Nicaragua. Over the past two years, the Russian government has added muscle to its security partnership here, selling tanks and weapons, sending troops, and building facilities intended to train Central American forces to fight drug trafficking.
The Russian surge appears to be part of the Kremlins expansionist foreign policy. In other parts of the world, President Vladimir Putins administration has deployed fighter planes to help Syrias war-battered government and stepped up peace efforts in Afghanistan, in addition to annexing the Crimean Peninsula and supporting separatists in Ukraine.

To paraphrase Tina Fey: I can see Nicaragua from my house! SURPRISE! The Russians never left.
Time to take out Nicaragua! Are they throwing babies out of incubators too?
Apparently the commies didn’t like being kicked out
What if they’re setting up a base to take over Mexico? Would they do that? If so, what would WE do?

U.S. cocaine imports.must be lagging.
Mexico City was the most active KGB station during the Cold War.
Also, Nico’s been heating up for two years and the WaPoo is just now getting around to reporting on it? Gee, wonder why.
A lot of putin’s fans would turn our country over to him.
U.S. cocaine imports.must be lagging.

You may be more correct than you realize. Hardly anything bad happens in Central American that isn’t in some way connected to the dope traffic to the US. A lot of people are making a lot of money by keeping that river of cocaine flowing.
And somehow, from Vietnam to Central America, and now Afghanistan, increased illegal drug production follows U.S. military involvement.
