Tillerson: China agrees on 'action' on North Korea as navy strike group sails

Secretary of state: ‘President Xi understands the situation has intensified’ Syria missile strike described by North as ‘intolerable act of aggression’

Edward Helmore and agencies Sunday 9 April 2017 15.31 BST

As the US navy deployed a strike group towards the western Pacific Ocean, to provide a presence near the Korean peninsula, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said China agrees with the Trump administration that “action has to be taken” regarding North Korea.

Tillerson told CBS’s Face the Nation, in an interview broadcast on Sunday, that when Donald Trump and Chinese president Xi Jinping met at Mar-a-Lago this week, they “had extensive discussions around the dangerous situation in North Korea”.

“President Xi clearly understands, and I think agrees, that the situation has intensified and has reached a certain level of threat that action has to be taken,” Tillerson said.

Tillerson described a “shared view and no disagreement as to how dangerous the situation has become”.

In view of the regional threat now posed by North Korean missile tests and nuclear ambitions, he said, the Chinese “do not believe the conditions are right today to engage in discussions with the government in Pyongyang”.

“We’re hopeful,” he added, “that we can work together with the Chinese to change the conditions in the minds of the DPRK leadership. And then, at that point, perhaps discussions may be useful.

The Nork situation will only be solved when the Chicoms give Krazy Kim the choice between exile and rule from Beijing or an invasion by the PLA and a dirt nap.

Well, if Red China think “action” against North Korea is a good idea then Red China should be first in line to take that “action.”

If North Korea truly comes into the modern world I will consider Trump’s presidency and unconditional success. That alone would make his presidency great

Truman should have listened to MacArthur and authorized the use of atomic bombs along the Yalu river. This would have allowed us to unify Korea and we would have saved the world a lot of pain and suffering over the last 50+ years.

If true (and we can never be 100% sure what is or is not true coming out of Washington) it could be a game changer.

North Korea exist only because China allows it to exist.

China today is not the China of the 1950s. Times have changed, China has changed. Supporting (and defending) North Korea is no longer a sound “business” decision.

China has discovered it could win with trade what it could not win with bullets.

It is true that North Korea has a large military machine.

But how long can that machine run without fuel?

How long can that machine run without food?

The question comes down to how many die in a conventional conflict versus how many will die in a nuclear exchange?

Allowing North Korea to develop long range nuclear capable missiles is in no ones interest. Everyone will pay the price when it comes time to take their “toys” away.

I assume South Korea knows this, as well as Japan, China and Russia.

This may be the beginning of putting the genie back in the bottle.

North Korea, then Iran. Pakistan and India may be on that list although it appears their weapons are posed to strike each other and not the west.

At least that is my opinion, I may be wrong.

:^)

China needs to take care of NK. If not we need special ops to take out the NK leadership. No need for a classic invasion. If the top tumbles it all crashes down.

I was wondering if this was one of President Trump’s results with the meeting of the Chinese leader.

So what did China commit to do? Sounds like Tillerson is learning diplomatspeak in employing a lot of words to describe China’s one word response “whatever” before they fled the room.China is no friend and we should expect nothing from them.Full steam ahead in renegotiating our trade agreement with them.
