An embattled Steve Bannon appears to be digging in against a storm of bad press suggesting he's on his way out, sources familiar with the inner workings of the White House told NBC News.
The White House chief strategist "ain't going anywhere," sources close to him said.
Bannon was removed from his position on the National Security Council this week, a shakeup that the White House denied was part of a "power struggle" within the administration. Officials discussing the move said Bannon was originally placed on the council as a check to then-National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, who resigned in February after misleading Vice President Mike Pence about his contact with a Russian ambassador.

On Saturday, one source said Bannon's message was this: "Democrats will never run the White House."
The comment apparently refers to Trump son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner and senior economic adviser Gary Cohn, who are believed to be Bannon's rivals for power. He has reportedly nicknamed them, the "West Wing Democrats."
NBC News reached out to the White House for response but did not hear back.
In an email to The New York Times, Trump spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders pushed back against reports of discontent in the White House. "Once again this is completely false story driven by people who want to distract from the success taking place in this administration," she wrote.
Bannon on Saturday attended what was described as a "long" meeting with Chief of Staff Reince Priebus and Kushner with the intent of presenting a united front, according to a source familiar with the situation.
Bannon is believed to see himself as the protector of the president's campaign promises, a kind of ideological compass.

Bannon wasn’t attending most of the Security Council meetings, and can still attend (already has) if he has a reason to do so. All this stuff is from unnamed sources and Bannon says it’s all BS. I’ll take his word on it over the media gossips.
It won’t stop the FR brigade who want to sow discontent to keep posting these articles. Sometimes they are worst then the liberals.
If Bannon goes, then the base that elected Trump will rebel and turn Trump into a one-term President.
BTW - I don't trust Jared at all, although he is an asset to the Trump administration.
Regardless, talking like that, especially inside, is counter productive. That would be like Jared calling Bannon and Conway the White House Nazis. Plus, it is the kind of thing that can get you kicked out, no matter who you are. So it calls into question Bannon's judgment.
Exactly. Which is why it’s fake news.
Like any executive staff, there is only one power in the white house and that is the President. Everyone else's "power" is dependent upon their ability to persuade the President to their view.
“The Left is trying to take Bannon out.”
That is precisely what they are doing.
As I reported to you all last night.
If you are on FR, you are at least 24 hours ahead of the news cycle.
Good point.
Bannon’s failure is trying to be a one man show.
Bannon needs to push for more conservative allies.
How many new posts and replies would Free Republic have if the bs fake news were eliminated.
Anytime the source is not named, the post becomes fake news.
Has CNN in this decade ever had a truthful story?
Jim, how about a breaking fake news column and an old fake news column.
Then, charge the posters, a $50 Fake news posting fee and a $5 reply fee for those clutching their pearls and agreeing that Trump is doomed for ever, in each column.
Next, have a contest for each day, the most insane/inane Fake News posting and charge the winner another $50 for posting it.
Of course all fees go into the fund raiser kitty.
And a $100 vanity fee.
Would Trump fire John Galt?
and a $100 vanity fee.
Then, double it for each additional vanity posted in a calendar year after the first vanity.
Yes! With a properly administered vanity fee, we’d finish the FReepathons in a week.
Trump would have bought out Twentieth Century Motors, fired the Starnes children, and made Galt the head of R&D.
I hope not. Considering how the House Freedom Caucus was being marginalized and pushed by the Trump team for wanting to repeal Zero Care, I hope Bannon's influence remains.
