Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev denounced Donald Trump In the first direct American raid on Bashar al Assad’s forces, US President authorised the firing of 59 cruise missiles at military airfield

Officials said it was retaliation for Assad’s use of chemical weapons US ambassador to UN: ‘We are prepared to do more but we hope that will not be necessary’

Vladimir Putin has now diverted warship the Admiral Grigorovich to protect the Syrian coast

Syrian aircraft took off from al-Shayrat airfield on Friday in apparent act of defiance

The Kremlin has warned the US it is ‘one step from war' over Syria - but the Trump administration hit back by saying it would be prepared to carry out airstrikes again.

In the first direct American raid on Bashar al Assad’s forces, President Trump authorised the firing of 59 cruise missiles at a military airfield.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev denounced the US for attacking ‘the legitimate government of Syria’ and for allegedly breaking international law without the approval of the UN.

Mr Medvedev said: ‘This military action is a clear indication of the US president’s extreme dependency on the views of the Washington establishment, the one that the new president strongly criticised in his inauguration speech.'

‘Soon after his victory, I noted that everything would depend on how soon Trump’s election promises would be broken by the existing power machine. It took only two and a half months.

’The last remaining election fog has lifted. Instead of an overworked statement about a joint fight against the biggest enemy, ISIS, the Trump administration proved that it will fiercely fight the legitimate Syrian government’.

But the US President warned he would do it again after unleashing a surprise attack on the Syrian regime with a massive show of firepower.

I’ll explain why;

1) Assad is a stabizing force in the region.
2) Attacking Assad is helping ISIS
3) The same chickenhawks who support this also supported failures in Iraq, Afghan, Lybian, Yemen, and more. Their record is 100% failure
4) squandering $6 trillion is enough
5) We aren’t going to sort their problems out
6) Assad poses zero threat to Americans
7) Trump was neo conned

thanks I had missed that report.
but is muslim is involved in attack using a vehicle- i always assume that there will be a bomb or some other device also.
If nothing else these terrorists are predictable.
Does not make them any less dangerous.

Exactly, I don’t understand why people here are saying we would beat the Russians, etc...Russian military strategy has at it’s core the use of nuclear weapons as a de-escalation move and failing that mutual assured destruction, which means any war with Russia would involve a nuclear exchange. As the west can’t and won’t accept high casualties, the west would blink first. MAD is exactly why you have a country like North Korea going full force for nuclear weapons because once they have enough and a credible delivery system, we would not ever attack them. As far as American military superiority goes, we can crush conventional forces but are still in Afghanistan 15 years later. The answer here is not war with Russia. People here are too gung ho for pointless wars.

I understand that the Syria strike was about signalling to a lot of different players about the resolve of the US. I sincerely doubt we plan on toppling Assad or going to war with Russia or North Korea but we have signaled to increase our credibility in negotiations. If we did get involved in a large way on the ground to topple Assad and bring in something like ISIS leadership that would be another in a string of recent pointless, expensive American adventures in the middle east. I don’t care about the Syrians or any other Arab. I care about the United States.

Russia doesn’t want war. What they want is the threat of war. They have oil and have been buying large amounts of gold in recent years - they now have the 6th largest stockpile in the world. Guess what happened after these strikes, same as happens anytime there’s a threat of global instability? Oil and gold prices rose sharply.

Putin is crafty enough to know a tense standoff helps his finances quite nicely. They’ll keep posturing until the markets hit the right price, make some deals and then everything will suddenly calm down again.

Thank you for the dose of reality.

The War Monger contingent is out in force this morning.

Another Iraq type war in the ME will end Trump’s presidency. He has much more important things to do (MAGA) than to get messed up in this never ending mess.

Russia is also the #3 gold producer in the world so any increase in the gold price is helpful on that end as well.

These are the same Russians who claim most of the Tomahawks didn’t make it to target, and send a popgun (frigate) out in response. Oh, and they supposedly collected and destroyed all of Assad’s chem weapons.

We know the hardened aircraft shelters that were hit got 2 missiles each (study the imagery elsewhere), so at least 47 made it to target. Probably more, as one would think ammo (at least) would be well sheltered too.

massive show of firepower

?

Obviously, these writers have not a clue.

This was a "knuckle rap". Just enough to sting a bit.

Yeah. I wish I could edit posts. I saw that immediately after I posted.

Heck, I’ve literally posted “uv” when I meant “of”. :)

Did you notice that, since the "successful" truck attack in France last summer, they seem obsessed with vehicles?

GM will have to install thumb print technology before the Truck can be started. But then there would just be a lot of dead truck drivers with their thumbs cut off.

“If it happens, there is no avoiding that day in any course.”

If that is true then there is no sense of bitching about it and blaming Trump, right?

It was a test in which Trump delivered a Ronald Reagan type of reply. Meanwhile, the entire colluding with Russia story looks dumber by the minute.

What body orifice did you pull that number out of?

You are probably very right; economics is driving the Russian posturing.

“Syria is Russia’s Ally just like England is one of ours.”

No, they are not. Calm down and give it a few days and let us know if that big ole World War III starts.

With a National Security Team of Trump, “fire! fire sabot!” McMaster, and Mad Dog, deterrence means acting as ISIS’ air force.
