I agree the media is pitching the angle of a west wing civil war
But also it’s troubling knowing the publicly known views of Jared and Legs
I could care less family is in the administration
And Syria
You better than most posters know what a tar pit it is
I’ll also voice what many here have freep mailed me
I smells like the Balkans again
And we’re helping those of whom many oppose us and kill Christians with impunity because we’re righting a perceived wrong committed by the heavier hand in the conflict
Our foreign policy when invoking Christians and others always seems to take the tack of aiding the side who’s killing and often brutalizing Christians when it suits us
Two nights ago we basically aided ISIS
I’m emotionally in favor of punishing Assad for using WMDs
But man did it ever open the NeoCon door with Kushner and Queeg and Vekvet Slippers crowing with glee
Tillerson who is no fool back again now saying removal of Assad could be a goal again is just more Bushism
Russia wants the bases etc
Israel wants Hezbollah occupied against ISIS etc so they can’t hit them
And the West but hopefully not Trump as usual wants nation building
We’ve already taken in millions of Syrian young men in the West who looked more like economic scaredy cats than true refugees
When does this end
Every time someone butchers civilians?
That’s sure not a standard we’ve always lived to since hell the Seven Years War
But we always rationalize when we do
What a cluster but I guess if it stops him reaching for them again .....
Can anyone answer what Assad hoped to accomplish with the Chem drop
I'm not. I honestly have no emotions about it. Actually, Assad could have killed more with regular bombs. I'm not even sure Assad actually used WMD.
But none of that matters, as I said. One must not exaggerate what happened in Syria: it was the bombing of a single airfield with lots of political significance and benefits. Really it doesn't even matter if Assad was guilty or not. What matters is that it destroyed the Russian puppet narrative, pleased the NeoCons, and furthered Trump's overall agenda--which will not please the NeoCons.
Now if Trump goes nation building, that would be counterproductive and a terrible thing to do. But there's no reason to think he's actually going to do that, no matter what Rex is saying.
Things will calm down in a week or so on these forums and the Assad regime will more than likely--if Trump thinks like I do--still be standing for a long time to come. Now Trump at some point might want Assad to step down and have a replacement, but I doubt it'll be in the Bush-like fashion of war and replacement with a democracy. Sundance made the comment that Assad might be too polarizing to keep. If that's the goal, then replacing him with any one else in the military would be just fine. Democracy should not be imposed on the Syrians and wouldn't work if tried.
“Can anyone answer what Assad hoped to accomplish with the Chem drop”
Somebody likes using them and maybe it’s Assad. There have been at least seven chemical attacks since 2013, some of them Sarin. The Ghouta attack in 2013 was the deadliest. Assad blames the rebels, but UN types think he’s the one doing most of it.
As for Trump’s motivation, everyone seems to forget that he has repeatedly said that he wants to create a safe zone in Syria to relocate the refugees. If Assad is gassing people they won’t be willing to go back. Hard to say if Trump wants to remove Assad or is using that idea as hard bargaining.
I can’t buy the idea that he is the least bit interested in pulling a stupid stunt like occupying and nation building Syria. He’s not a fool. If Assad goes there will be someone amenable already chosen to replace him, probably with Russia having a big say in it.
