Good for McConnell - can’t stand the guy, but he deserves credit for holding out some long, hard months last year & not even giving Merrick a hearing. I saw a story where he asked Trump early for a list of those he would nominate if elected & once he saw it, he decided it was worth waiting for the election result. Lately he’s been sounding tougher - I believe that having a real leader at the top (Trump) does make a difference.
I thought Schumer would be as bad/tough as Reid. I was wrong - Schmucky is not up to the caliber of Reid - a good thing. He’s still plenty conniving, obstsructionist & willing/able to do damage, but Harry Reid was in a class by himself and I am SO glad he’s gone.
This was all a foregone conclusion from the outset. The Rats knew they weren’t going to replace Scalia with a liberal, especially if Trump won. This was all Kabuki Theater.

McConnell has always been good in opposition. He was a great Minority Leader. The criticism of him has always been that he can't find a way to conjure 60 votes out of a caucus that has numbered in the range of 51-56, including a half dozen squishes and RINO's. This criticism is generally made by those who think that a bomb-thrower would do better and that another government shutdown would solve all the Republicans' problems.
