Does anyone think that the Democrats would have confirmed a Supreme Court justice in 1992 or 2008 if there had been a vacancy in either year (when they were hoping that the next President would be a Democrat)?

The Democrats are mad because Obama's choice did not get confirmed--who happened to be better qualified than the two "diversity" choices Obama made earlier (Latina, lesbian). The Senate rejected a nominee by George Washington--John Rutledge, a signer of the US Constitution. Not that George Washington can hold a candle to the awesomeness of Barack Obama.

I see that and shudder, knowing that we truly dodged a bullet. Obama played a high stakes game of chicken, hoping the Senate might prefer Garland to anything Hillary might offer up... with the betting being at the time that she was going to win, of course.

That was close.
