As of this writing, Baker >has< done a good job as governor. He hasn’t been as RINO as I thought he’d be.
He’s infinitely better than any potential RAT governor.
I don’t know. Something is clearly wrong with him.
Ben Sasse...Nebraska’s Joe Biden...only more moronic...
Sasse is an oddity to me. Supposedly he was a Tea Party candidate, and at one point during the NE Senate primary Mitch McConnell got pissed at him for something. Yet I never see him taking up ideological fights the way Cruz, Mike Lee and Rand Paul do, and I’ve never heard any instance where he bucked the establishment (again, unlike the three chaps I mentioned). And for all his distaste of Trump, he didn’t even openly endorse Cruz (he did announce he’d vote for him) back in the presidential primary.
It seems he wants to be the “great man of principle” that never caved to the “RINO” Trump, so when supposedly the Trump administration is shown to be a disaster the conservative base will flock to him as the movement’s savior. Every now and then I’ll read something from people who think this way. It’s just delusional.
Yeah. It’s a shame Nebraska has sent a passel of oddballs in the years since Roman Hruska and Carl Curtis retired in the 1970s (both of whom could’ve continued in office into the 1990s).
Ed Zorinsky, the former Omaha Mayor, who switched to the Dems in a fit of pique after Watergate, but was completely ill at ease serving as one. Jim Exon, who might’ve been a Republican in another state, but who equally refused to become one.
Then there was Bob Kerrey, a truly strange man and far-leftist who should never have been in elective office. Then you had crypto-Democrat Chuck Hagel who seemed to go insane in his last term. Ben Nelson, who sold out his state and the nation for ZeroCare.
Mike Johanns, who went nowhere, left no mark, and lost interest in the job seemingly before he was sworn-in. Then you have Booby Ben Sasse. Deb Fischer seems more stable, but like Jodi Ernst in Iowa, seems to have gone completely under the radar screen. We need more firebrands with spines of steel in the Senate taking on the anti-America rodentry.
It’s a damn shame the dependable Conservative Don Stenberg never got a NE Senate seat. He’d have been a lot more respectable. It’s too bad he’s too old to really have another go in 2020 (he’s termed out as Treasurer in 2018). I’m not sure who is ideal to go after Sasse, perhaps 2nd Dist. freshman Don Bacon, although that seat has become so marginal it would be at risk in an open situation. I don’t see Fortenberry or Adrian Smith giving up what will be 16 and 14 years of seniority in the House by then.
I don’t know about delusional but going all in on hoping the administration fails is a traitorous d**k move.
