WASHINGTONSen. Susan Collins (R-ME) signaled she might vote for the constitutional option to confirm Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, which would make her the second member of the Gang of 14 to do so, and move Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) one vote closer to the 50 that he needs to make it happen.
Last week Collins said Gorsuch was unquestionably qualified for the Supreme Court, and that by trying to filibuster President Trumps chosen successor to Antonin Scalia, Senate Democrats were playing politics with judicial nominees, damaging the Senate as an institution and in the eyes of the American people. A bipartisan majority of 55 senators have pledged to vote to confirm Gorsuch.
Now that it is official that Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has the 41 votes necessary to sustain a filibuster to block Gorsuchin fact, he now has 42, with another four undecidedCollins is suggesting she might support the constitutional option.
First of all, I think its important to recognize that there is absolutely no basis for filibustering such an eminently qualified nominee, Collins said. And I am very troubled by the fact that the Democrats have put us in this situation.

I think if the Dems filibuster, it will make them look bad to even the average uninformed person, no matter how much the media will excuse and praise it.
“Damage the Senate in the eyes of the American people. “
Get me off the floor, can’t stop laughing..
Let Schumer and Chucky’s Kids throw their snowflake tantrum and then NUKE ‘EM! They lost. Trump won.
I still believe the Dems are going cave, but I am hoping they do not and we go toe-to-toe nu-clee-err combat with the ruskies, oops I meant Democrats.
Senator Collins has to be respected. I rarely agree with her and she makes me mad but she is a good women unlike dieanne finestein who is just a raving bitch.
I agree. I don’t think dems will go through with it either. It would be the stupidest thing they ever did, greasing the skids for a conservative to take Ginsberg’s seat and leaving the left with no ammunition to even put up a fight.
As soon as McConnell herds all the Republican cats and announces he has confirmed 50 votes to change the rule, dems will cave.
Dems had to push it this far though because their base is absolutely rabid and is growing more and more insane every day as things go from bad to worse for them. Their entire worldview is collapsing around them and they are powerless to do anything about it.
they are screwed either way.
The GOP needs to let them Filibuster. No need to do anything to stop the Dems from looking bad.
All the GOP has to do is show up at every camera and say:
“The president nominated a replacement. Hearings were scheduled. All committee members asked questions. He was voted out of committee to the floor. A vote has been scheduled. ANY DELAY By FILIBUSTERING AT THIS POINT IS SIMPLY DELIBERATE ATTEMPTS TO HURT THE PRESIDENT AND THE JUDICIAL CONFIRMATION PROCESS.
The Democrats love to label us the Party of “NO!”. We can see today who is saying “NO!”
I think the Republicans should head that off at the pass and immediately go nuclear - before the dems have a chance to finish their act. Just call them on it this minute.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
And what will that accomplish? Nothing, because no one is paying attention.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
They really did. They’ve played this incredibly poorly and they’re totally boxed in at this point. It’s really going to cost them down the road if they don’t admit defeat now and permit an end to debate.
Gorsuch replacing Scalia changes nothing. Gorsuch is in fact probably to the left of Scalia.
But a conservative replacing Ginsberg and/or Breyer changes the whole galaxy!
If the filibuster was still in place, Trump might be persuaded, in order to avoid a big fight, to replace the far left Ginsberg with a moderate. No reason to even consider that if he only needs 50 votes. Go ahead and replace the hag with a true constitutionalist. There’s nothing standing in the way.
That changes everything because the only way the left is able to succeed is through a corrupt, dishonest judiciary that is willing to write left wing law out of thin air. Without that they have no law making ability, and therefore no real power, at all.
I agree. The Senate in the latter part of the 20th century
and the 16 years of the 21st century has long lost whatever
dignity and respect it once held in the eyes
of the American people due to the behavior of its members.
Especially if the GOP reminds them that he was confirmed 95-0 by the same Senate !!
Does this mean she's still considering an un-Constitutional option?
Absolutely correct. They've already declared war on all Trump's judicial nominees. There's nothing left to do but win that fight. It's not just about Gorsuch, it's about the whole agenda.
I would not be surprised if this was all Kabuki theater and the GOP will NOT have the 50 votes (+ Pence) to pass the nuclear option.
Then Bitch McConnell would say, “Well, we tried so we just have to find a more “mainstream candidate” - aka another leftwing Wise Latino socialist.
My sides still hurt after reading above that Susan Rice will “testify’.
