Call me crazy if you want and you might be right, but I’d have come off that bridge with my dog or gone down together with it. I can’t imagine leaving a dependent animal in my care behind to die like that.
It was 77 years ago; people viewed animals in a more practical sense back then. I’d be damned if I died trying to save what amounts to “emergency rations”... :P
