Honestly, she should have done this while First Lady. SO MANY BLACK GIRLS feel they are “supposed” to straighten their hair, and wigs must be uncomfortable.

I don’t like Michelle Obama, but she could have been a good role model for black women and girls. She avoided all natural or traditional ways to wear African soft curly hair. A shame.

Yes she should have. Torturing your hair is not good for it and wigs and extensions destroy it as well. She should have helped young black women to be proud of their heritage.

“...she could have been a good role model for black women and girls.”

I agree but her and the hair is really nothing compared to Barack’s failure to emphasize himself as a good role model for young black men. I do think he is a good husband and excellent dad. I give him a lot of credit for over coming what must have been an emotionally painful childhood. (Look, I do think he’s a crazy lefty and communist, but he was just the POTUS for the last 8 years and we’ve all surived so I’m just taking the guy at face value, if you know what I mean.)

But he never really talked about that. He never spoke out to young black american guys and said “see, my childhood sucked and my dad wasn’t around, etc, etc., but I’m true to my wife and family”. So, to me he really blew a unique opportuninty and him being him I always think it was because he couldn’t be bothered to think about anyone besides himself.

Thought... she was a he. ...so the wigs were just a minor cover-up in the land of make believe.
