I’d believe the HFC people more if they admitted that the HFC ever did anything less than total perfect conservatism.
You want a cult of personality, look in the other direction too, because they get treated as reincarnations of Jesus by some people.
“... if they admitted that the HFC ever did anything less than total perfect conservatism.”
The word ‘conservative’ has become somewhat meaningless. Fortunately, that is not what HFC stands for, the F is for Freedom. Today, fewer and fewer conservatives value America’s primary principle - which is Freedom, not loyalty to a party or to any particular flawed man. And, yes, of course individual HFC members are flawed too like Trump and all men. Just not in the same ways.
“You want a cult of personality, ...”
I think you are mixing apples and oranges. If you were to say the HFC is a cult of principle, then I would agree with you. And would applaud them.
“...they get treated as reincarnations of Jesus by some people.”
I’ve not observed such behavior and I have to believe most HFC members, even if not Christian, understand that Christ, nor anyone else, will EVER be reincarnated. To believe such a thing would be like someone at FreeRepublic believing that Republican spawned federal entitlement/dependency programs are the route to Freedom. It is sacrilege.
However, your ironic reference to Christ can be instructive here. If you simply recall that He was very much an enemy of the establishment, like the HFC, and similarly bore the mantle of Freedom.
