Marvel Comics arent doing well. Sales have declined, even as Marvel has pushed out every major event and crossover it can over the past two years. In a recent interview during the Marvel Retailer Summit, Marvel VP of Sales David Gabriel decided to ignore all the problems and criticism in order to place the blame on diversity.
What we heard was that people didnt want any more diversity. They didnt want female characters out there. Thats what we heard, whether we believe that or not. I dont know that thats really true, but thats what we saw in sales. We saw the sales of any character that was diverse, any character that was new, our female characters, anything that was not a core Marvel character, people were turning their nose up against.

4Chan effect.
You mean making Thor a “trans lesbian Muslim dwarf other-kin” makes for crap sales?
Likely because they refused to acknowledge xer’s privilege by not respecting POC spaces.
Too many of their “heroes” turned out to be goober smoochers.
They and their more public outlet, The_Donald on Reddit, are huge fans of comics, they’re posted constantly and some are quite professional and very good. However, they’re not name brand comics and they absolutely skewer the SJW mindset. Very anti-PC. The young talent coming up will supplant the leftism, if the industry as a whole survives long enough for their rise to prominence.
The correct way to expand your market is to put out products that appeals to CURRENT and NEW consumers.
You don’t replace the product current consumers prefer in order to appeal to potential new consumers. And you certainly don’t do it to appeal to SJWs who don’t care about any of your products anyhow.
For example, replacing “coke” with “new coke” attracted people who preferred the “new coke” taste but lost A LOT of current consumers - even many who preferred the new taste in blind tests but had a connection to the old product and consciously or subconsciously didn’t want to be forced to change. Adding “coke zero” kept the old customers but added those who wanted the new calorie/taste combo - some consumers decided to switch from coke to coke zero but it was their choice. One was the correct way to expand and the other wasn’t.
We’re just tired of having that crap shoved in our faces and being told we’re evil if we don’t like it...especially when WE’RE paying for their products/services.
Absolutely. Glad I married a real man.
As I understand it Marvel has somewhat ceased to create anything new but simply rebooted on reboot to keep the old going. That itself might not be a serious problem except that they seem to have hitched their wagon to the Social Justice Warriors and guess what?
Young men, who have long since been a big audience for comics, may not like it as much and all those folks who maybe they hoped would be drawn in by their virtue signaling can get their fill elsewhere.
I bailed on comics years before, while Wolverine wasn’t much out of his brown costume phase, because the stories were often crap. If I want soap opera I can watch soap opera for free on TV.
Even so it was still an era when Magneto might discover that, the prejudices of a jurist aside, his own arguments and the law as he sought to apply it, and not prejudice, determined the outcome of the trial ... and attitude about Justice VERY different than we see rampant on the left these days.
Within a decade, IIRC, I noticed that they’d fallen so far as to have a naked POTUS either licking Magneto’s boot or eating crap, can’t recall which, and I’m pretty sure it was W they showed doing it.
With creativity like that I’ll stick with anime!
Can’t be edgy and relevant without a host of butt buddies!
Actually, having poofter characters is often a form of virtue signaling: a way to show you’re not one of the bad people.
frankly, I’d rather be one of the bad people.
If the comic fans are infested with the SJW mentality, wouldn’t their sales increase now that they’re catering to them full time? Perhaps more of their buyers are normal people than they’d like to admit to.

When I collected comics, Superman and Spiderman had girlfriends, and that was about it on the subject of their love lives.
Comics are expensive these days, no one is going to spend money on trash like this.
There are 27 homo characters on that list, and that’s just Marvel.
Ditto.
they don’t want you fighting a culture war with your story’s. that worked long ago when most your customers were 15 and under but if you look at most comic readers today they are 30 plus in age and to you are not going to be able to change there value system much.
If I may, I like female super heroes. The Golden and early Silver Age versions.
Doctor Who as a woman would suck, but it would also counter the gender-theory narrative of transexuals. If played womanly by a woman, Doctor Who would reinforce that gender is so strongly tied to biology that with all of his history as a male, he still becomes a woman in a woman’s body. If played manly by a woman, well, first the show would be unwatchable beyond the Steve-Martin-as-Lilly-Tomlin kind of schtick that would last for an episode. Otherwise, it would highlight how truly unnatural the transsexualism is.
Just consider that forty years of aggressive propaganda after Billy Crystal played a gay parent as a central character on Soap, Modern Family still presents a gay couple as husband and wife, where the wife is played as an Uncle-Miltie type abstraction. Brokeback Mountain sounds more women’s analog to “girl-on-girl action” mixed with melodrama than a depiction of gays living a lifestyle analogous to heterosexuality.
This isn’t a failure of Hollywood candor; this is Hollywood knowing that if you look under the cover — so to speak — homosexual is not analogous to heterosexual.
And they can’t make transexual analogous to heterosexual.
Your business succeeds when you sell well to your largest and/or most profitable customer base. Women and various types of minorities are NOT the profitable audience for comics, much less liberal message fiction in comic book form.
