"The Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agenda if they don't get on the team, & fast. We must fight them, & Dems, in 2018!" - Donald Trump
No, that’s mealy-mouthed, RINO-ish BS. This was a bad bill, and it was rightly torpedoed.
We lived with the “a bad bill is better than no bill” schlock through Bush Jr.
Never again.
Here’s what I tweeted 2 him: @realDonaldTrump I am a 100% supporter. 1st time I’ve felt betrayed is u going after @freedomcaucus Many of us dismayed. Please stop & #MAGA.
That health care bill was done in a dark alley w major input from insurance companies. It didn’t repeal OCare & sanctioned another entitlement. Illegals were going to get healthcare. Total rat sandwich. If it had passed the media would have covered how granny was dying because of it. Ryan handled it wrong. Easy to pick on one small group & blame them when they were essentially wanting a bill that reflected what DJT campaigned on.
I believe that a slower three step process or so is the right way as we must face facts that this nation has 1/3 of it’s population who are uninsurable based on obesity alone.
I am very concerned about what appears to be Trump’s naivete about the agenda of the GOP establishment. Ryan, McConnell and company are out to destroy Trump. They do not want to lose power, and they will do anything to keep hold of that power. Trump is making a mistake by trusting Priebus. The Freedom Caucus wants him to succeed. You do not build a coalition by saying things like this to a group who is willing to help, but you have to have a good plan in place or at least work towards putting one together.
He could disregard their support and votes discretely, and form that same alliance.
Perhaps many of us have underestimated the truth of "power corrupts."
Freedom Caucus member Rod Blum from Iowa represents a district that leans Democrat, but has not taken the moderate way out. Blum was working for Trump behind the scenes long before the Iowa Caucuses in 2016.
Trump is simply wrong about this.
>>Cant he give a little ground? They arent talking about cold turkey cut off with people dying in the streets. For the most part they are insisting that Trump keep his freaking promises.
Aren’t they demanding a full repeal now of every Obamacare provision?
No, we’re not.
But there is not now, was not yesterday, and WILL NOT BE TOMORROW, enough votes for the kind of repeal that we all want. Regardless of how many times they took a show vote for the home team to keep their seats.
But when it came to vote for real, we learned about the real political positions of many GOP members. Whether it was members hoping to keep their Tribal/Alaskan health care carve-outs, or members preserving the Medicaid expansion for their governors (an originalist position, I might add!) or a genuine disagreement over subsidies, etc.
Don’t misunderstand me, here: I think the Ryan bill was pure crap, and I agree with Newt that the FC probably saved the GOP majority.
But, it’s gonna take longer than 70 days to come up with a bill to satisfy them and get enough votes.
And it shouldn’t begin with a guy who was regularly meeting with the insurance companies, and kept the bill hidden as part of the Witness Protection Program.
Mr. President, conservatives are not the problem. Do not listen to Ryan or McConnell.
Geez, really, the 4th Amendment protects you from your ISP? Please go read it and the rest of them. You will see that they proscribe government action. Free people are free. You can play with the ISP if you want or not. They can ask you to stand bare ass naked in front of your pc’s camera if they want. Both parties are free to do as they wish without government interference.
>>And this situation is exactly what the left counts on, every time they expand government and create more enforced dependence.
I know. :-(
This is a bad situation that has developed over many decades. How do you roll back an ocean?
It is NOT FC fault that LYIN RYAN brought this bill public with NO input from other factions of party!!!
Everyone seems to think they know what is on Trump’s mind...
How many times has Trump done something, said something, that causes panic here in FR, only to turn out to be exactly the correct thing???
Trump, IMO, is thinking far ahead of most all “professional politicians” from BOTH sides of the aisle...
I prefer to sit back and see what develops before panicking...
Tax reform and infrastructure are up next on the agenda. If they oppose him on those things (because of the border adjustment tax and more federal spending) and stop his bills from passing, then hes going to come out of that looking not only serially incompetent, but also impotent to get anything done. This could be disastrous to brand Trump like that so early in his presidency.
Interestingly, Meadows has already signaled his willingness to abandon his “principles” on offset spending on the upcoming bills. So “standing on his principles” lasted all of the weekend. LOL.
Sad to see these self interested beltway swamper in the kamikaze caucus dupe so many folks into believing they are immaculate conservatives. We’ve seen that movie before. It has a bad ending.
“So now we are throwing the FC under the bus for the sake of Trump?
When does this madness end? Seriously, what is the direction we (FR) are taking here?”

People have to realize that the Freedom Caucus are the only ones who are trying to do the right thing. Ryan cannot be trusted and only cares about holding on to his power. He, like the left, wants to see Trump fail. Trump is not getting good advice and Priebus is at the top of that list.
We can only hope.... As it turns out, the republican agenda is not a whole lot different from the dumocrap agenda.... More government, more regulation, more immigration and a lot more of McCain, McConnell and every other "one worlder" they can find.....
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH..!!! We need a new party..
“When you embarrass the boss publicly and contribute to his defeat in his first major initiative”
I agree. The republican majority in the senate and house failed to work together among themselves. What’s Trump supposed to do? He wants to get things done.
I am particularly interested in Phase 2, the part where the HHS secretary can start reversing some of the previous HHS secretaries’ rules and regulations.
Since Obamacare is still in effect, and the current HHS sec enjoys the same authority as the previous one, why can’t Dr. Price start reversing those rules right now? Like, this morning.
Anyone know?
You are getting rotten advice,Donald.
Conservatives are not afraid to stay home if their choice is between two liberals.
