Sunnis and Shias (and all their various subsets) have never ever gotten along and lived in peace except for very short periods of time under strongmen dictators. Even then it was not peaceful by Western standards.

Muslims can’t even live in peace with other Muslims. All four of the first four “rightly guided caliphs” were killed by other Muslims. Aisha(mohammed’s favorite wife, the one he married at 6) and Ali(his favorite son-in-law) fought a war against each other called the War of the Camel. This would be like the Virgin Mary and St. Peter fighting a war against each other.
From the very start all the Muslims have done is fight against each other. It’s all they do.
