Aborted Fetus are Used Today to Create Flavor Enhancers in Foods
Health Impact News ^ | Dr Mercola

For several years anti-abortion advocates have been warning that a new technology for enhancing flavors such as sweetness and saltiness uses aborted fetal cells in the process.

The biotech company using this novel process, Senomyx, has signed contracts with Pepsi, Ajinomoto Co. (the maker of aspartame and meat glue), Nestlé and other food and beverage companies over the past several years.

The primary goal for many of these processed food companies is to make foods and beverages tasty while reducing sugar and salt content.

While Senomyx refuses to disclose the details of the process, its patent applications indicate that part of the secret indeed involves the use of human kidney cells, known as HEK293, originating from an aborted baby.

It’s worth noting that no kidney cells, or part thereof, are actually IN the finished product.4 Rather they’re part of the process used to discern new flavors, which will be discussed below.

That said, to many, this is still “over the line.” Two years ago, anti-abortion groups launched boycott campaigns against Pepsi Co., urging them to reconsider using flavorings derived from a process involving the use of aborted embryonic kidney cells.

Whatever your personal convictions might be on the issue of using biological material from an aborted fetus, the issue of whether or not biotech-constructed flavor enhancers are safe or not remains…

How is it not a form of cannibalism ? Good lord what a twisted f __ k who ever thought of using human tissue as a flavor extract....think about that for a minute.

First I’ve heard of this process. It’s disgusting and, if it isn’t literal cannibalism, skirts very close to it. Also, they say there are no baby cells in the food or drink, only in the process. What the heck is the difference? I would want to know what products use this process so I can avoid them.

That’s ok. Don’t drink soda. What’s good about it anyway? Makes you pee and poop a lot right away.

Mercola has been criticized by business, regulatory, medical, and scientific communities. A 2006 BusinessWeek editorial stated his marketing practices relied on “slick promotion, clever use of information, and scare tactics.”[3] In 2005, 2006, and 2011, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warned Mercola and his company to stop making illegal claims regarding his products’ ability to detect, prevent, and treat disease.[6] The medical watchdog site Quackwatch has criticized Mercola for making “unsubstantiated claims [that] clash with those of leading medical and public health organizations and many unsubstantiated recommendations for dietary supplements.”[6]

The article makes it clear that your ‘cannibalism’ is not part of the facts.

I don’t drink soft drinks in general. I drink water, coffe and milk. Everything else must have alcohol, wine, scotch, bourbon, tequila, vodka, bourbon, rum, and beer.

You didn't read the article, did you. Let me spare you the inconvenience and sum it up for you here:

Human Embryonic Kidney cells (HEK 293) originally havested in the 1970s, and cloned ever since, are used to create artificial taste buds that companies such as Pepsi use to perform initial screening of new flavorings.

No aborted fetuses are being used in Pepsi products.

Well, well..maybe YOU didn’t read my comment. I never said the word “cannibalism”, nor even alluded to the concept. Perhaps you have mistaken me with another poster.

Having corrected you, I will reiterate that this process is distasteful. I would not want the 4th or 14th generation of cloned aborted fetal cells to taste or smell any product that I would purchase. It’s a revolting development.

I read the article...again how is it not cannibalism ? Human cells for a flavor enhancer? Gee whats wrong with honey or molasses or sugar or lemon or lime or any other thing we are presented with from this great planet? Just because the original HUMAN cells are from the 70’s and are supposedly cloned it’s a cool thing for a b ull s __t soda? Give me a break.

If you took away that human cells are being used as a flavor enhancer, then either you did not read the original article, or you did not fully comprehend it.

Human cells, cloned from one sample taken in the 1970s, were used to create an artificial "taste bud" to test flavor enhancers. The flavor enhancers themselves did not contain human cells.

Excerpt from the article:

"It’s worth noting that no kidney cells, or part thereof, are actually IN the finished product. Rather they’re part of the process used to discern new flavors, which will be discussed below."
