If the CIA is involved, the truth, whatever it may be, is possibly buried under layers of professionally-crafted BS.
Could be simply instant jihad and the CIA connection is incidental. Could be the CIA using psychological techniques to sacrifice a low value asset (the guard) to remove one or more higher value assets (the Green Berets) who had somehow become inconvenient. The psychological stuff usually works better with a low IQ subject.
If they want to, they can make someone like that guard hear the voice of “Allah” in his head, while no one around him has a clue anything is up until he obeys the voice.
