WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, U.S. Senator and physician Rand Paul released the following statement after U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan pulled the American Health Care Act from a floor vote for the second day in a row:
I applaud House conservatives for keeping their word to the American people and standing up against Obamacare Lite, said Dr. Paul. I look forward to passing full repeal of Obamacare in the very near future.
Earlier this month, Dr. Paul introduced the Obamacare Repeal Act (S. 554), which is the same legislation, with an updated timeline, to repeal major components of Obamacare that an overwhelming Republican majority sent to President Obamas desk in January 2016.
You can read more about Dr. Pauls Obamacare Repeal Act HERE.
In January, Dr. Paul introduced the free-market based Obamacare Replacement Act (S. 222), which empowers Americans to: 1.) Choose inexpensive insurance free of government dictates; 2.) Save unlimited amounts in a health savings account (HSA) and have wider options for using those funds; 3.) Buy insurance across state lines; and 4.) Join together in voluntary associations to gain the leverage of being part of a large insurance pool.
You can find a one-page summary of Dr. Pauls Obamacare Replacement Act, which the House Freedom Caucus endorsed in February, HERE.
All true, and your posts speaks to a greater problem we have in the healthcare insurance and healthcare provider industry - it is overrun with "middlemen."
Health Care Has a Middleman Problem
There are literally millions of people who get paychecks in the healthcare industry who do nothing in providing direct healthcare to the injured, the sick, the diseased, or the dying.
They are the middlemen - and they have expanded exponentially in the last 40 years.
Democrats passed their Plan C with exactly 60 Senate votes and charges of racism for not passing the First Black President’s Signature Legislation.
Republicans have a weak 52 votes, and you will need a minimum of 60 Republican senators for this since since asking for help from Democrats to roll back government healthcare is like getting ISIS to abandon their religion.
There were a limited number of things that could get through the Senate with 51 votes. That’s why this was “Obamacare Light”.
Maybe the better plan is just to have our ideal plan stall out in the Senate, ask voters for more Republicans and/or wait for the situation with Obamacare to become untenable such that some Democrats actually worry about the political cost of obstruction. If that’s the case, then they should say and do that.
Paul and Freedom Caucus ought to at least be up front with the reality that we face since misleading people about the level of difficulty involved is incredibly counterproductive.
Their names are a matter of public record. We need to mob them with the question, "If yea then, why not yea now?"
It is NOT a good thing that the idiots in Congress coukdn’t come together, repeal Obamacare and replace it with a boll like this one.
Paul Ryan needs to go and so do most of his colleagues.
Sevendors damn years and NOTHING.
I want government except medicare which was paid into but with much stronger regs, student loans and government mortages to end and end now.
I want health insurance to be able to cross state lines like car insurance increasing competition and lowering costs.
I’m sorry if you have a preexisting condition. Don’t people get higher premiums when they continuously get into auto accidents.
Student loans should be either offered by the colleges themselves or banks who wish to take that risk.
Same goes for mortgages.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Phase One is dead but Phase Two is STILL OPERATIVE.
Phase Two consists of the Secretary of HHS using the plain language of the bill to make changes. In fact, the Secretary has a LOT of power in this area.
The changes made by Sibelius right after passage of the bill can all be rolled back. In fact, and I hate to suggest this, but the Secretary COULD actually SABOTAGE the bill if they so chose.
The idea of middlemen involved in the insurance system is an important one. I see apparatus of government as a middleman. I am sure the insurance industry sees government as a monkey on their back.
So will Freedom Caucus write a Bill? Can we combine the 3 steps into one? Will that be OK with dopey Senate rules? If not change the rules. Looks like rules will need to get nuked for Supreme Court.
I want to see something get done as my rates go up, my deductible goes up and my kids work 2-3 part time jobs as that is all they can get. The ride on my policy for now, but time in running out as they are in their 20s now. My employer plan is OK, but employee portion continues to rise hitting me right in the pay check.
This was the main reason along with Supreme Court and Illegal Imigration as to why I rang 100 door bells every week for Trump in OH. We won, gave GOP majorities, now I ask them to do their job.
I have the right to health care by going to a doctor I like and paying for his services. I should be able to shop for insurance across state lines.
Govt cannot force me to buy anything, especially then dictating what kind and type of thing to buy.
Malpractice wind falls is a big part to why costs are crazy. I know several orthopedic surgeons that don’t do surgery anymore. The only do the basic office visit stuff because the reward doesn’t offset the cost. So Tort reform is a must.
I fear for the mid term 2018 elections if this does get fixed in next 12 months. We know that come Nov. 2017 more insurers will drop out, premiums and deductibles will rise insanely like they did in 2016. So maybe we can get this done right in January 2018? Pressure those Dem senators up re-election.
A Dem majority will kill Trump’s ability to do anything and we as a country will lose and his re-election could be in doubt and we will resume our slide to The Socialist Staes Of America. United seems to have fallen by the way side.
Trump gave Ryan the ball and he failed. So Trump wisely punted. So I hope another effort happens in the next 12 months.
On to Tax Time I guess. Hope we can get Our act together on that.
“Another grandstander and fraud who played his role. The check from the Koch Bros is on way, an A grade from Con Job Review, and an atta boy from the Mark Levin as well... yada yada... Meanwhile nothing gets done and were stuck with Obamacare forever. “
That’s how I feel. “We won! We stopped Ryancare!” is the line of the day. Yeah... hurray. They stopped something that would have fixed at least SOME of the problems. Now, as Trump says, we’re stuck with Obamacare and everyone’s insurance rates are going to go through the roof. Excuse me for not celebrating. Obama wins. We lose. Congress gets paid for sitting around being a bunch of worthless assholes.
Sounds like a much better Bill.
I just love this guy.
Rand us no Reagan. He would have got something yesterday
I thought the idea was to allow the consumer to buy the plan as it stands, regardless of where the insurer is located. Otherwise, as you pointed out, the provision is pointless.
Amen!
Amen!
In our damn state of Washington, our DemonRAT governor will make sure the insurance companies bend over backwards to their demands. Ask Mike Kreidler why we don’t have insurance across state lines:

I believe Trump played it perfect. Let’s let Obamacare fail on its own, then turn it completely over to the private sector. It’s like a car, if you don’t have insurance you can’t drive. Well, then why do I have to pay a penalty if I decide not to use medical care but yet must carry health insurance.
Trump has turned Ameerican politics (as having been practiced for far too long) upside down !
Rush made a great point yesterday ...WHEN has Trump EVER displayed insecurity about him and his position as a man, a leader, a politician (business is politics, folks) ?
And I will not entertain any more "not in my lifetime" type of thought process(es)
Trump has opened up the Pipeline in a few short months bucking EVERY political attempt to stop it over more than eight years.
Coal is back in play
ANWAR may not be far behing
The winning is just as he said it would be ... so much we'll come begging him to please stop, we can't take so much winning.
Trump told us ... We would win and win and win and win.
We have and we still will.
The commie R's will be gone in the next two election cycles before Trumps's second term.
I can still guarantee as soon as this set of a-holes are voted out, a whole new set will pop up to take their place. It’s just the price we must pay, living in a fallen world. The a-holes will always be there, but this world is not my home, I’m just passing through, and I’ll take any victory I can get while I’m here.
The Health Savings Account is the direct result of one conservative think tank economist. I am sure that he and others like him could think of some more good stuff you could use.
You could be a real hero, man.
