Discussion About GOP Replacement to Paul Ryan as Speaker Intensifies in White House, Congress
breitbart.com ^ | 3/24/17 | Matthew Boyle

Republican officials in Congress and the White House are now openly discussing finding a GOP replacement to Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) as Speaker of the House, after Ryan failed to pass the American Health Care Act out of the House and misled the public and President Donald Trump when he promised repeatedly the bill would pass.

Ryan was caught on an audio file from October—obtained by Breitbart News and published a couple weeks ago—saying he is “not going to defend Donald Trump—not now, not in the future.” While the audio file does not make the comments clear, Ryan’s staff later claimed that it was specifically about the Access Hollywood tape scandal from the election. The audio tape of Ryan, recorded from a House GOP members’ conference call, does not make that context clear.

Many allies of the president and several White House officials over the weeks since have confirmed to Breitbart News that the president is concerned that Ryan may not have his—or his agenda’s—best interests at heart. Ryan’s failure to deliver the votes on healthcare cement Trump’s skepticism of Ryan, they say.

Well ... if he meant without the leak of the COMMENT about the 47% who don’t pay taxes, then no, that didn’t cause the loss.

If he meant the actual votes of those 47%, then it definitely did cause the loss. Had those tax-free voters simply stayed home on election day rather than voting for Obozo, Romney would have been President in a landslide.

Only problem is Cruz is in the Senate and not the House, don’t think he would want to switch. LOL

Oops. I should have thought that through a bit more.

For some reason I was thinking Ryan replaced Boehner, and Boehner was being challenged by Cruz in the SAME chamber.

And also I was thinking Cruz was one of the reps pushing for changes to fix this bill before the vote.

So who would be a good replacement for Ryan?

Ryan just proved to the whole world that he can’t do the job.

Had this bill passed, it would have been a HUGE feather in Ryan's cap. The Speaker wanted nothing more than to have gotten the votes for this, but since his elevation as Speaker he hasn't had to work this hard.

This debacle PROVED Ryan has neither the talent nor the skills, nor the leadership ability, to be Speaker.

Being GOP Speaker of the House in the Obama Administration? Not such a hard job: remember, the "GOP" stood for "Give Obama Power"; it was all Kabuki Theater after all. Under Trump, however, the House GOP had to deliver, and Ryan failed miserably.

Next up on Trump's chopping block: Mitch McConnell.

What I find interesting is how many RINOs crawl out of the woodwork when they don’t get their liberal-lite bill passed.

The swamp draining is really up to us, the voters.
WE have to stop electing weasels like Paul Ryan and start electing decent people like Dave Brat.

I wonder how much blame should be placed on the Senate for not doing a clean Repeal. Had they unequivocally announced that a clean Repeal could be done with 51 Senate votes under Reconciliation — because the Senate Parliamentarian had ruled it could — then Ryan would have had no excuse to try RyanCare.

Ryan can now retire a millionaire with free health care for he and his family for life.

Trump gave Paul Rino enough rope to hang himself.

My take as well. This is cold-blooded throat-cutting politics. Trump is publicly supporting Ryan. He publicly supported the bill, too. And he still may end up with what he wanted in the first place.

Or not. Because for this to work, it has to work. But somewhere Machiavelli might just be snickering...

Ryan could not possibly deliver on repeal and replace. He is there because he is the conduit for reelection cash that K-street wants and those who want re-election cash are told who they should support as speaker to get it. It's part of how the swamp denizens rule the swamp.

It sure needs draining, but I can tell you living here that some pretty ugly things are going to come slithering out in the process. You really need to take off and nuke it from space to be sure you get it all.

And what I find interesting is “principled conservatives” leaving a “build the wall” POTUS bare ass to the wind. They don’t call it the stupid party for nothing

Amazing how many people here wanted to save Obamacare by rearranging it.
That’s all Ryancare would have done.

a big mistake on his part.

Maybe no mistake. How much $$$ does he receive from Big Pharma? And others who benefit from yuuuge government spending on health care?

The incredible shrinking man. He’s a nobody today and will be a nonperson next time Trump needs votes. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. The “freedom caucus” is about to find out how irrelevant they are.

Perhaps to you he is a "nobody" but his constituents think he is doing the job they elected him to do!

I had to do some research to see how I failed to see this before.

It turns out that, just as I remembered, Cruz was put forward as a possible name to replace Boehner. I just did not recall anyone making an issue of him being a senator. (But they did.)

So, actually, there is no REQUIREMENT for the speaker of the house to be a Congressman. But, it just so happens that ALL speakers have been picked from Congress.

This means, in theory, Cruz COULD be speaker, though it is very unlikely to happen. Regardless, I think we should be looking for someone to replace Ryan as speaker. We could probably do worse. But we can almost certainly do better.
