The Dems will do it anyway, regardless. Do you seriously think that, if the Dems ever regain power, they will allow themselves to be bound by rules and tradition? They ALREADY nuked the filibuster for all lesser confirmations when they had the power.

We might as well push the button now.

Then why didn't they do it for Obama's last appointee? Especially since Hillary was destined to win? Reid's nihilism is costing the Dems greatly and will do so for a long time to come. We don't need to join him.

Because Republicans held the Senate at the time, 54 to 46.

The nuke option only makes sense if your party holds the Presidency, and while you have more than 50 senators, but less than the 60 senators it takes to stop a filibuster.
